Super hot hike, and a new knife.

nice looking knife!

the story about eucalyptus as i've heard it is that it was brought here by the railroad barons as a quick growing fuel source for the steam locomotives. so some of what you see today is often a remnant of the external combustion era.

Sweet looking knife! I might have to look this guy up and pass it on to a friend. He is looking for something like that without the scandi edge.
I'm glad the temp and humidity here in nj are not like that anymore. Now we are settling in the 80-70 degrees during the day and at night roughly around 50-65 degrees.

It's interesting that you say that. There are railroad tracks nearby including a railroad tunnel that was blasted through the mountain in 1906

Good stuff T  Looks like a comfortable all-rounder. See any rattlers this time? Probably was too hot even for them....

It's strange, I haven't seen a single snake this whole year. Tons of lizards, ground squirrels, rabbits etc. but no snakes. These rocky areas are usually crawling (or slithering) with rattlers, garter snakes and racers but I haven't seen any!

Same here, aside from a little garter earlier in the summer, although I tend to see less snakes in the damper shaded areas I hike in....

that's often the case, but they got spread around enough that the presence of one doesn't aitomatically indicate the other. but i'm not surprised.
