Hey, guys I am looking to buy a super karambit and it seems that knifesupply.com has the cheapest one so far. I wanted to know if the website is the real deal and if anyone found it cheaper. I am a little unsure because it is only $187.95 instead of $291.95.
Also is it legal to carry one in California?

-Thanks a lot, Andrew

questionable under ca law, since the ring could be viewed as a metal knuckle.

re the price, the emerson list prices are often 50% above what one could find on line elsewhere.

im not familiar with that particular site, however the price seems about right.

I have the Super, but it does not fit my hand as well as the regular Karambit handle does (and I don't exactly have a small hand)! I highly suggest you handle one before you buy, unless you just have huge hands and you know it will definitely fit better than the regular one.

The Super is a scooch over 3", so you may run afoul of some local 3" laws????

Well I figured that the extra length in the blade may prove to be useful in a combat situation, but what do you think?

Its not really enough extra blade to make any real difference over the regular kerambit IMO.

I think its just a slightly bigger blade made for those who found the regular a bit small.
They both do the same job at the end of the day

In practice, I find that the Super is a bit heavier and a bit more clumsy than the standard Karambit. It just isn't as agile.

One thing to consider though, is that in winter you may have to get through layers of heavy clothing to reach any flesh. This is where the Super might be an advantage....

So what would be your opinion for me because I do not have the biggest hands. Also should I get it in Satin or black?

Has anyone used knifesupply.com??

Is there somewhere you can find either one to try on?

My hand is wider than averange and my fingers are fatter than average, yet the standard Karambit fits me like a glove! I would guess that the Super is only going to be a perfect fit for a very few people....

i have a regular, and medium hands. i find it very comfortable to draw and hold.

the large isnt uncomfortable, necessarily. but i dont find the balance to be as nicely executed, and it is much bigger overall, for not much extra blade length.

I have the Super, and if you have big hands, go for it.
If your hands AREN'T bigger than average, you probably won't like the way it sits in your hand.
Both Karambits are cool though, so you'll enjoy it(as long as you get the one sized for you).

The big thing for me is that with the index finger in the hole, I'm not going to drop it or get disarmed! And, I can still open my hand if necessary to to help control my opponent.

The Super is just a little sloppy on my finger to allow that! If I can't use the finger hole the way I need to, then I would be better off with my CQC-12 instead....

Do you have any negative thoughts about the regular karambit?

imho k'bits are great if ya are trained in the use of one, if ya arent imho a std knife is a better choice, ie a CQC12 would be a lot better choice.

and by trained i mean trained by someone not a book or DVD.

i had a tarani master model which at the time was supposed to be the bomb as far as k'bits go, i thought it sucked lol, didnt like it at all.

why?

*the knife was very "stiff" to open and close.

*didnt like the angle the blade had, EKI k'bits arent so acutely angled like the tatani's, so i dont suppose that con would apply to them.

*just thought the big ring sticking up outta my pocket was too flashy and noticeable, and frankly i thought it looked "goofy" sticking up like it did,

the only thing i liked about it was i was able to sell it so fast as they were hard to come by at the time.

i honestly just didnt like it, the limited utility ability, the stiffness, and most of all the general "look" of the thing, just didnt care for it at all.

now YMMV, i also think that training is a must with the things,

I disagree completely! The Karambit is the most simple weapon to use, even for the untrained. All you need to do is just simple and logical moves. This is the knife to give to your wife or daughter, who doesn't really want to do a lot of training. And again, the hole in the handle makes it less likely that you will drop it or be disarmed....

I'm with Recon...and I DO HAVE training.

You can use Boxing motions with a Karambit and not be worried about dropping the knife.
The Wave Draw combined with the Finger hole is AMAZING.

BUT

I would think about getting a straight blade version (there are two).
A more standard Blade shape makes it a better utility knife.

For Defense, I would prefer the curved blade.

Oh yeah...Get the Black version.
Harder for an opponent to track and not as flashy when you are using it for general utility.

RE: Training
You need to learn how TO NOT CUT YOURSELF FIRST.
The Tip of the Karambit is EVIL and will 'bite'.
I recommend getting a Trainer blade.

Basically for quick and dirty self defense you need to be able to do a clean draw/open/ Slash in one movement (Extended Grip using Index Finger in the hole).
If that is ALL you knew how to do (but could do it well) you would be in good shape to start.

All the Disarms and fancy knife drills are fun....but if you simply slash at the opponents Weapon hand/wrist THAT IS YOUR DISARM. Followed up with face/neck slashes and/or a sideways slash across the stomach.

Most Karambit videos are way too complicated and are basically trying to teach you Silat. Try to avoid those videos.

I am trained in a few different martial arts, but about the videos has anyone tried the emerson Complete Karambit? Just wondering. Also is it worth getting the exact trainer or just a cheap karambit to practice?

Emerson's training video is worth getting...if you can find it. A trainer is great too. You need the E to practice draws, etc....but they are expensive.
