Super Karambit

I disagree completely! The Karambit is the most simple weapon to use, even for the untrained. All you need to do is just simple and logical moves. This is the knife to give to your wife or daughter, who doesn't really want to do a lot of training. And again, the hole in the handle makes it less likely that you will drop it or be disarmed....

well, i disagree with you completely lol.

imho the knife to give an untrained person is NOT a k'bit, i could write a list as long as ya would wanna read of stuff i think would be better for the untrained, probably would include every single well made knife made that isnt a k'bit, what exactly about them makes them better than anything else for the untrained? i just dont see it myself. now if ya are trained with the thing its all good, but i still dont see why if ya were trained with one by someone who really knows there stuff why it would be any better than if ya were trained by, say bob kasper to use std style knives the k'bit would offer any advantages over anything else. i'm not sure that for an untrained person that bigger wouldnt be better, up to a point of course, but if ya know WTF ya can do just fine with a shorter blade, of any style, again up to a point.

imho the hole looks dorky sticking up outta your pocket, might be fine if ya are expecting trouble and such but just looks "dorky" for edc stuff. i agree it might help with retention, to a degree, if ya happen to get into a knife fight with someone who tries and disarm ya and has the training to do th at, but to me the "look" of the thing sticking up outta your pocket is enought for me to offset this, and i'm not sure it does help to any great degree,

we can go back/forth till gabriel toots his horn and no one will change my mind on this, i have had a k'bit, & i did not like them at all, period end.

but hey if ya like 'em good for you, no problem with that at all, in fact one more of them will always be available to ya cuz i wont be buying it lol.

oh, and from what i understand, from folks who do know WTF when it comes to using the things, the straight bladed ones nullify the very advantages some say they have, thats what i've heard anyway, i honestly have -0- desire to train with opne as if ya do that locks ya into that style of knife vs any other style, & this imho could have a negative impact if ya find yourself in a situation where ya are stuck with a regular knife and not a k'bit.

honestly, i just cant get past the dorky looking ring sticking way up outta your pocket, & wouldnt carry one if i did think they offered some big advantage over std knives, which i dont think they do,

but like in say, if ya like 'em, good for you, carry one and go forth and sin no more, but they are not for me at all, i suppose thats why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream, different strokes/different folks, but i still dont think one style has any major advantages over another style.

I do have the Bullnose Karambit (conventional blade) as well. For most applications it is infreior to the C-shaped blade, except perhaps when held in the reverse position for knife boxing.

Got to say theat I disliked the Karambit for many years! Thought it was Ninja wanabee martial arts nonesense. I was originally trained in classic knife fighting, and I just didn't get it until I actually purchased a Karambit and discovered how natural it was! I am convinced!

In a real world street fight, it is what I want in both my hands. Get two Karambits and learn to box....for me every other type of training is a waste of valuable time!!!

I think giving any knife to a person who is not trained to use one is a total waste of time. I understand what reconranger means but in reality things are not as simple as just slashing away at the person using gross motor skills.
It dosnt matter if its a kerambit or any other knife, if the person is not "consciously" carrying the knife they wont even deploy it. They will just react the way they would with out a knife every time.
Iv used this with beginers to prove the point to my students many, many times.

However, I also think the kerambit has a different learning curve than a regular knife.
There is frankly less to go wrong and that does make things easier for beginers.
But to become really good, and by that i mean using the kerambit to its full potential, not just "boxing" you need a good knowledge of human anatomy and human mechanics, that takes time to learn and understand. Not to mention the techniques and more importanly, principles that go along with any area of combat.

I am costantly shaking my head at the things I hear people say about the kerambit.
They are good blades but at the end of the day they are just a knife and not really that different from any other.

Just to add my 2 pence here,

Got to say a couple things here about C-shaped baldes. I really think the general public has overlooked these...which is just fine with me, so I am less likely to have to face one on the street!

While you can't do a classical stab, you can certainly do a modified stab and then hook the blade out, causing a way more devastating wound than any straight on classical stab will ever give you. This becomes even more important in winter, when everybody is wearing heavy clothing that you are going to have to get through first. The C can just hook in there, and that wicked point is going to catch and dig in deep!

And in a real world fight, one is way more likely to get in a slash, than a classic stab, so again, with the slash that point is going to catch and drive deep.

If one for some reason does not like the Karambit handle, yet does see the wisdom in a C-shaped blade, then I would go with the Emerson PSARK as an alternative.

I would NOT give one to my wife or daughter unless they would PRACTICE with it.
If you aren't very comfortable handling it, you will be more likely to CUT YOURSELF!
