Tonight i made a forced air one brick forge. i think im the first :). i easley hit welding temps and welded some wrought iron. the forced air burner is for the forge im bulding and it has a 1" burner tube. 1" was to big for a one brick forge so i used a bell reducer to go to 1/2". propane is fed from just a small tank. i ran it around 1hr at welding temp and have 1/2 left

very very hot

im going to design a very simple burner people can use on there one brick forge. the torch just does not put out the btu to give ok results. but for around the same price as the torch you can buld a burner and actuly forge with it. i heated up 5" of 1/2" wrought iron bar to welding temp in 30-40 sec from a cold bar. dont beleve me, i have video. i will post it.

Ray Rogers designed a portable forced air forge with a simple burner a year or so ago. This will reach welding temps and even got hot enough to melt his insulation on the first run.

I think the coffee can is a more versatile setup and better for folks who want to do anything beyond the basic one-brick setup.

Oh, you have to get pictures on making that and some of the design!!
That might be the savior of my little forge!!!!!

yea, i have never heard of them used in a forge, but i once saw one of these heat what must have been 12 cubic foot raku kiln, and it looked plenty hot for forging. on a smaller forge, i reckon welding temp would be no sweat.

ok here is a video of it running. go to youtube and look under jtcustomknives. thanks

JT,
Could I get the plans for that burner you made from you??? Or did you buy the plans??

Thanks

well its not as even as i would like but way more even than just using a torch. its great for forging gards. the burner input on the forge is so close tho the steel that it has a big hot spot. but i think if 2 bricks where used stacke on top of each other and a larger round hole was cut out that went through the bricks. and the burner was placed twards the back at the top slightley angled to the frount it would be way more even and easyer to use. i will draw somthing up.
