Superquench, developed in Sandia labratories by Rob Gunter
5gal. water
5 lbs. table salt
32 oz. dawn dish soap (blue)
8 oz. shaklee basic I

This formulae ws developed to replace quenching mild steel in Lye, quenching in Lye gives a 40 to 45 rockwell in hardness in mild steel, but it also gives off very toxic fumes. The superquench is OSHA approved and will give the same hardness range in mild steel. It is not reccommended to quench high carbon steel in superquench it will crack the steel. This formulae should work great on RR spikes, though I have not tried it RR spikes being about 35 points of carbon. Check the yellow pages for shaklee dealer near you or I can get you some. The Basic I is a wetting agent, Rob said that other things have been sub'ed for the basic I but it does not work as well. The blue Dawn soap will turn green after prolonged use, when it turns green it is time to make a new batch. This fromulae is used mostly for making dies punches etc. from mild steel without the expense of buying tool steel.

now george.... what exactly do you have in mind?...

Thanks Mike, the shaklee is not listed in the yellow pages here. That is probably why they replaced it with jet spray dishwashing machine product.
