Super Steel?

Personally, I rate it in the 154CM / VG10 performance level.

Takes a very fine edge. Holds it about as well as those alloys.

That's what my present edc is.Yes it performs like 154CM .Takes a fine edge, easy to sharpen [I'm using abrasive paper and computer mouse pad for a convex edge]. Very happy with my TOPS knife.Excellent steel but not a "super steel".

Comes down to..i'll have to wait when i get the knife ..then make the eval...hopefully it will meet up to my expectations!

im certain it will meet your expectations. in my experience it sharpens like and takes the edge of vg-10 and holds it as well also. i would consider it a "super steel". Fox knives out of italy uses it in there higher end production knives as well as in the higher end knives they produce for other companies such as the XM-1 by ontario and fox says its the italian version of VG-10. i dont know where i read that but i read it a few years back and my experience back it up....bottom line its a tough steel that hold a great sharp edge.

The Boker Titan Defender I just got has N690Co. Prior to it I was carrying a ZT0500 in 154CM, and like several I have found a lot of similarties between the two steels. I am a fan of 154CM so I am liking the N690Co!

My TOPS folder is in fact made by FOX.Fit and finish couldn't be better.
I consider something like Fallkniven's SGPS a 'super steel ' , a step above N690.

The sharpest knife that I own is a Spyderco Volpe, made by Fox and using N690Co. The steel takes a scary sharp edge and has a fine grain structure. I have no hesitation in recommending N690Co to anyone.

I think of it like advanced VG-10, gets sharp and sharpens like VG-10 but holds a edge better and you don't see so much chipping and edge roll at low angles. Overall a very good steel.

I don't think anyone said the compositions were similar. We said the performance was similar.

You are correct Bohler did merge.

I've been using a Spyderco Dayhiker with that steel for the last 2 weeks or so. I must say I am very pleasantly surprised by its performance. I've cut a lot of really hard tough plastic (wrapping) with it and it is still hairshaving sharp. No trace on the blade whatsoever, and I am not taking it easy with this knife.

There's an ER RAO in the mail as we speak with the same steel. If it's anything like the Spyderco, that knife is gonna be a dream.
