Heres something I have been working I thought you guys might be interested in.. The knife is made from .220" thick S30V. The blade is 5.5" long and flat ground. The handle material is forest green G10 secured with SS pins that are crimped press fitted to ensure the handle stays there forever.

Here it is from profiled blank to ground blade and handles installed

Here is the knife in pretty much finished condition.. Still needs a bit of handle refinement at this point.. Also the area between the plunge and the cutting edge is left with sharp corners.. This makes a great curved striker area that throws a ton of sparks off the 3/8" rods. Its nice to have there and keeps you from using the edge..

another bad a$$ looking knife Trace... i love the color on that g10...

The sheath system has some new idea's integrated into it.. Its rigged with my misch-metal firesteel with the DMT diamond sharpener.. You can see more about that here.. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=627382&highlight=Knife+bullets

It also has a magnesium bar that is the attachment point for the firesteel sheath and also the retention screw at the top.. It will be clear coated to keep it from corroding and would be for emergency tinder in wet weather.
Its also a shiny reflective surface for signaling. Magnesium is very light and it adds hardly any weight to the sheath..

Here it is as it comes together..

Here is the sheath just about finished up.. If you notice in the belt loop there is a secure pocket inside.. In there is a little rig of its own which will include a can opener that can also remove the screws to the sheath if need be, a special striker, and will probably have a couple fishing hooks and a bit of leader line with some heat shrink over it.. Hooks and leader are pretty hard to come up with in a bad situation so I thought it would have pretty good bang for the room they take up.. I'll show pics when its all dialed in.. There is also a redundant 3/16" misch metal rod in the lower part of the belt loop.. Its in there very securely... JUST in case;)

It still needs some tweeking, some paracord and some other things yet and I will show finished pics when its done.. Im also working on another version of this knife with no lower gaurd and will have my double firesteel with compass;)

Hey thanks mike I really appreciate it bud.. I like the forest green G10 too.
It takes on a very nice tacky texture when its blasted. Very grippy without being abrasive on the hand in prolonged use.

The knife and especially the sheath look well planned for survival situations, did you make this for personal use or for a specific customer?

Whoa! Thats a badass looking set up!

Great job on those handles bro! Looks pretty comfortable!

This is for a guy in the Netherlands that has been waiting a LONG time..:o
I do want to make myself one of these though..

Thanks Tony, and TG! Im pretty pleased with how this one is coming together.. I appreciate the kind words and feedback..

I'm not a huge choil fan but that's a really sharp lookin knife! Great work. Love the sheath too. I'm sure your client will be happy with it.

Thanks! Yah they arent for everyone.. Im working on another version of this knife without and no integral guard made out of Stellite.. It will be rigged with my double barrelled firesteel with SAS compass http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=634679&highlight=SAS+Compass. It will also be wearing advantage camo on the sheath system..Might be seeing both rigs in print down the road..;) I'll show that one soon too.

Awesome!
I am tired of drooling at you pics. Get your butt up here so I can buy you a beer and see those beauties in person!

Trace,

It may not fit a persons tastes - but NO ONE can deny how much thought you have put into this.

For those on this board - we seem to prefer a 4 inch blade or so - but there are many that carry a blade of your length.

I really like it - and I love how much thought and design you have put into the whole package.

Can I ask though - I am not clear about the metal on the back of the sheath. The rounded bar stock - is it just a reinforcement for the screws?

I love the redundnant firesteel - and I have to think it adds strength to a vertical pull on your sheath loop. I like the idea of hiding a leader and a hook or two in the little pouch - never know it is there unless the SHTF.

Not necessarily my speed - but I think you should be commended for the amount of thought and expertise that has to go into a full package like this. You have to know a LOT about a lot of different things to make the full package.

I love this, and especially the amount of thought that went into the system. That green G10 is simply beautiful. Thanks for the pics, Trace!
