Super Survivalin Rig WIP;-)

Trace,

It may not fit a persons tastes - but NO ONE can deny how much thought you have put into this.

For those on this board - we seem to prefer a 4 inch blade or so - but there are many that carry a blade of your length.

I really like it - and I love how much thought and design you have put into the whole package.

Can I ask though - I am not clear about the metal on the back of the sheath. The rounded bar stock - is it just a reinforcement for the screws?

I love the redundnant firesteel - and I have to think it adds strength to a vertical pull on your sheath loop. I like the idea of hiding a leader and a hook or two in the little pouch - never know it is there unless the SHTF.

Not necessarily my speed - but I think you should be commended for the amount of thought and expertise that has to go into a full package like this. You have to know a LOT about a lot of different things to make the full package.

Hey thanks for the kind words man.. I do make knives in that size range and am pretty well known for a 4.5" knife called the TTKK and also the TUK like Im working on now that will be similarly setup.. This knife sort of bridges that Survival-Tactical area but I agree a pure survival knife with a 4"ish size blade and no guard is the way to go for utility, woodcraft, food prep etc.. Stay tuned the next one will be more to your liking I think..;)

Thanks everyone for the feedback! Jason, and Marion.. I know I keep saying it but I think it will be SOON this time!!!Ha!! Should be up there in a few weeks working on getting the place setup to move..

I dig it, the whole design looks great. I like inovations like with the ferro rod and the mag bar on the sheath, very cool

Dude that is one awesome design - love the whole package...what would that set up cost me?

OK here is the little sub-rig that goes into the belt loop pocket.. Like I said I'll probably stick a couple gamakatsu's and some leader line wrapped around it in there too..

I've never seen anyone do scalloped strikers that wrap around the fire rod but I thought it made sense increasing the surface area in contact with the firesteel. All I know is it works great.;)
The scallop at the front makes a great little magnesium shaver and also will strike the rod fine. There is also flat striker area on it. The heat shrink makes its own little sheath on the can opener.

Heres the sheath from a few angles.. I like to make my sheaths with screws and posts or in this case a magnesium bar. This allows you to take it all apart and open it up to clean it.. If the sheath is riveted you cant get the crud that may work its way in there out.. Its not the kydex that scuffs up the blade its the grit that gets in there.. If you get dirt or sand or whatever in the sheath you take it apart run a rag soaked in rubbing alchohol through it and its squeeky clean inside and out..;)

And what the hell heres a couple pics of a few TTKK's I just finished up..
The little ones are .100" and the bigger one is .125" CPM S30V heat/cryo treated by maestro Paul Bos.. All are ground very thin with convex edges.
Handle material is carbon fiber from F22 construction remnants. SS pins.

all i know,is that i could go into the wilds with full confidence in such a knife and setup!! the bare essentials are all there, and with redundant backup stowed in other areas(i.e. pack or pockets) you would be well prepared for most things!! trace, you make a rockin blade and this setup is very innovative!! great job bubba!! -fed

Someone asked to see the sheath system finished up so here it be..

Here is the sheath all rigged up.. I wanted it to be as snag-free as possible so I came up with a way to keep the lanyards secured as well as making safeties to keep from losing the knife or firestarter/sharpener if say you were jumping out of a plane or something similarly unwise;).... They both have plenty of retention with the sheaths, but its an extra measure of security.. Also I added a pretty cool whistle cord lock on the end of the knife cord..

I like how it all came out, and this is by far the most comprehensive survival system I've put together.. I think the next one will be pretty nice too.

Great looking knife that, very clean lines and deceptively simple form. Excellent work mate.
