Super Thin & Small EDC, narrowing it down

Like STR said the Scallion is a little bigger than the Chive and it is easier to grip. You might also look at the Textured Handle G10 Kershaw Leek. The G10 Handle is real nice on this one and it has S30V steel. Good Luck! Kevin

OK, I finally had a chance to see a couple knives today at a semi-decent store. Based on another thread I looked at these:

Benchmade Benchmite
Kershaw Chive

I liked the Chive for the Assisted open, which I now know I must have. However I much preferred the feel of the Benchmite.

Any advice?

Be sure and consider the weight of whatever you plan on carrying. Why should a small, thin knife be heavy? (rhetorical question.) Anyway, the Chive and Leek, in their basic forms, are surprisingly heavy. Any of the Spyderco Byrd models are ourageously heavy, as if they were made of cast iron, with the exception of the very smallest ones. The Spyderco Kiwis are cool looking, but having to carry a knife around in a freakin leather pouch just isn't worth carrying at all, IMO. Have you thought about the Al Mar Ospreys? Nice size, but no one-handed opening, and once again you get the leather pouch thing. I've been thinking of getting a Jester for quite a while now. I bought a Ladybug many years ago and have never used it, because they used to only be available with the "combo" edge, and I don't like serrations.

I know that you've made your opinions on Spyderco clear, but I would briefly suggest the Navigator II and the Lava. The latter may or may not be available yet. I'm not sure.

Also, I would advise against the SOG assisted-openers. I find them very uncomfortable in the hand, and those that I've played with have had cumbersome AO systems (which, of course, compeletely defeats the purpose).

I have now moved the Spydercos to the top of my list. It's just hard to beat the rave reviews and quality/price. If only the Benchmite were easy open.

The Navigator looks nice but is a bit on the heavy side, though I am looking at the Dragonfly which looks to be pretty much the same but with FRN. I do wish it had detachable clip though.

i just noticed last night that the Benchmite does flick open fairly easily...

A Benchmade 440 is a great little knife. In fact, it's perfect for office, dress, and other occasions where you need a super cutter in a lightweight, slim package.
Otherwise, an SS Delica would be great.
