Super Tinker to the rescue.

You know what have been alot more effective and less damaging to the snake... rubbing alcohol, a little bit poured on his head would have made him release instantly

Great knife story. I love reading them. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed though. When I started reading it I found myself silently calling out "Use the hook - use the hook!" Oh well, someday somebody will post a story about how they used the hook for something. ;)

When we go to our inlaws, usually several times a year, I and my son make slingshots. briefly, I fold up a long strip of plastic (from a freezer ziplock baggie), use the awl to drill/punch a hole through each end, then use the hook to pull the rubber band through. The only other thing I've used the hook for is to push cleaning patches through the blade trough of my folding knives when cleaning.

If you go to SOSAK online, you'll find an interesting article specifically about the hook.

The alcohol does NOT work. I know. We tried it when I got bit one time by a Burmese python. There alot of myths when it comes to reptiles. The rubbing alcohol is one. The Salmonella is another. Salmonella is NOT a snake thing. It's a DIRTY thing. Chicken carry it, red meat carries it, humans carry it. When something is dirty, it attracts Salmonella. As a matter of fact, snakes are among the cleaner animals, so no they are not too prone to have it.

Hmmm... the guy who sold me my Ball breeds pythons and told me it would. The vet told me about the salmonella thing...
