Yes, I cast it and the "pumpkin" pommel in some brass found at a dig of a Colonial foundry in VA.

A little time in the shop tonight, and the narwhal is now ready to be two knife handles.
One will be a whaler's bowie, and the other a dagger.

After some careful study of the orientation of the twist, I cut the two larger scales and flat sanded the backs. They make a left and a right set. The top and bottom piece left over from that cut are much thicker, and the backs were flattened to mate seamlessly. They will be made into a mortise tang construction on a long thin knife. They will be sanded smooth. That isn't the norm with narwhal, but the inner ivory is beautiful, and rarely seen. The last one I did like this was auctioned off at an ABS hammer-in about 10 years ago and brought a very good price.

Yes, he likes the knife. I sent it in a glass topped display case, but the glass was broken in shipping, despite padding and FRAGILE marking on the box . He has already replaced the glass.
