When I used a small forge I held it so I could move the blade in and out to keep it even. With my oven, I cut some grooves in fire brick cut off from the oven build for blades to sit spine down. 1" angle iron with grooves cut in it also works. Although I suspect they will eventually be nothing but decarb.
Places that sells ceramic kilns and stuff will have ceramic holders with rods. Some knife making suppliers will have that too, you just use those to keep the blade upright.
