Sure, I should have used my chainsaw, but...

What fun would that be?

Honestly, my ASH-1 broke me. After a LOT of chopping and batoning, I took my knife inside and just washed it off... NOTHING, not even a chip or roll. The coating isn't even coming off, just smoothing a little bit. What an indestructible piece of steel. I wish I could say the same about my skin! I'm really needing a battle mistress now.

I love this knife.

Nice little wood pile there. Is that the skinny Ash or regular Ash-1?

Sweet little knife, havn't used my skinny ash yet, but will soon.

Nah it's not the skinny, it's a combat grade. I like 'em big.

The edge on it when I bought it was kind of crappy from the factory, it was even and all, but really not "sharp". After I convexed it, it chops like an ax, even for a 6 inch blade.

I always get those blisters when chopping, even with the res-c handle on the scrapyard dogfather.

I need to try it with gloves next time.

Great pics - love to see a Busse getting used!

I've found the hand-shaped mags tend to be a lot kinder to my hands, and still plenty secure to grip in micarta.

If i ever send any of my knives in to the spa, replacing machined handles with hand-shaped will be on the to-do list.

Hey, at least you didn't get Busse Pinky :D

Edit: i take it back - you DID get Busse Pinky. I missed the last picture the first time I looked through.

It's the curve at the lanyard hole it the bottom that gets me, and the talon hole. I've got giant hands though.

I'll be buried with this knife, blisters and all. Although an NMSFNO is definitely on my want list.

My daughter and I just returned from a backpacking trip. For wood processing I held the dogfather and she batonned. After only two minutes she had a blister so we broke out the first aid kit, outfitted a cool band-aid, gave her my leather gloves and off we went. We managed to split the rest of the wood without a problem. I think it just takes time to build up the skin to not blister with any knife (or baton). I'm impressed you did all that wood processing with the ash. It's hard enough with a ten inch blade.

So I guess im NOT alone in this? :D

They don't call it Busse Pinky for no reason ;)

Good thing the NMSFNO is on your want list, I get a lot less blistering with that one. The FSH I just picked up digs into my pinky a lot more.

I'm waiting for a nuclear meltdown version of the steel heart

Yeah, lesson learned for me, next time wear gloves if im going to chop that much wood. Honestly, It was quite a bit of wood to use a 6 inch blade with. The batoning is the easy part, the chopping was a PITA. I'm thinking next week i'm going to hunt for a NMFBM for my big chopping needs. My wood stove is already eating all the wood I just chopped.

I've considered offerings from both swamp rat and scrapyard, but after playing with infi, i've decided I'm not going to look back.

Yeah, I had to explain to the maul that I just spent 10x more on the knife, so darn it, I'm going to do it the hard way. ;)
