For a forum that offers custom made knives at good prices almost daily, this place sure is quiet. Swords, bolos, kukris, karambits, bowies, kardas, and daggers all appear here and they're all hand made. I'm like a kid in a candy store over here. I already have two very nice kukris and two kardas on the way. I missed the last bowie, but I'm sure more will appear. So far, I am impressed with the quality. So, why is it so darned quiet over here?

Stealth sharks. ;)

(Just the normal ebb and flow of the HI tides, perhaps.)

Eric

I guess I have been hitting it in the ebb tides. Last night, I saw those nice kardas and rushed to get my order in. I was in such a hurry, it took me three times to get the email right. Then....nothing. So after a while, I got another karda. I missed that last bowie on DOTD. Maybe the stealth sharks all already had thier kardas. :D

I think a lotta sharks are waiting to see what goodies Ted is going to post up while Yangdu is on her trip over the next month;)

I'm strapped at the moment, but I'm hoping to maybe pick a little something in the near future:)

Ted has so many knives of his own, he could do the DOTD every day for 30 days and his collection would still be huge!:D

I think what happens is Yangdu's been putting up some killer DOTDs and there's been a feeding frenzy. Now everyone is reloading their wallets. I think that's why sometimes absolute treasures get ignored is everyone spent all their money. I know I've gotten some DOTDs up to 4 days after they were posted. That's the only explanation I can come up with.

What I'd like to see here or in WS&S is more guys doing HI pic threads, showing them being used. I really need to get a camera. I want to do a pic thread, or maybe short video of cleaning a fish with a kukri. Just to show the naysayers it can be done. Maybe show some comparison videos of my 20" Ang Khola vs Penobscot Bay axe, vs full size axe, vs BFK to show just how badly the kukri outchops the BFK, outchops even a big hatchet and really only a full size axe can outdo it. Heck, a large kukri is even faster and easier to get through 1.5" and smaller branches than a saw. One swing using not much more than the weight of the kukri will result in a clean cut.

Might be fun to have someone do a test video of a kukri, and provide a link to the FAQ telling you to actually test it like that and watch the howls of "Abuse! Abuse!"

[Beavis] Heh, heh. That'd be pretty cool. [/Beavis]

Uh, well Beavis, uh, I'm pretty well stocked on H.I. goodness
for the time being. There's other models on my Want List but I can wait.

So far my H.I. arsenal consists of:

20" Ang Khola (Kumar)
25" Sirupati (Vim)
21.5" Chitlangi (Sher)
26" Chitlangi (Bura)
25" FIVE LB HALF INCH THICK BLADE Bhairab (Vim)
14" Seax (Dil)
23.75" Chiruwa Chitlangi (Santosh)
29.25" Tarwar Sword (Bura)
20.5" Sirupati (Bura)

Plus my wife's 15.5" Chitlangi (Santosh)...

... and the 18.5" Panchthar Chitlangi (Santosh) I obtained for a friend...

...and the M43 (Sher) I got my brother for Xmas last year.

... and I'm not done yet. Just taking a break.

For now.

pfffft. Lightweight;)

Excellent collection you have so far:D

For the future, I'm waiting to snag the following:

- good size Movie Model longer than 20", shorter than 25"

- 21"ish Gelbu

- an Uddha Sword with just the right blade shape

- perhaps another 21" Chitlangi, but with a saatisal handle

- perhaps another 20" Sirupati (the one I have by Bura has become my 2nd favorite khukuri)

- Panchthar Chitlangi, 20"ish

- maybe a UBE if I see a big one offered which catches my eye. I like the looks of the UBE because it's sort-of a Nepalese flavored Khopesh.

- a long Seax about 20" and IIRC I'm not the only one interested in one of these.

oooh....i want a 21" chitlangi....might have to just treat myself to a full price perfection for that guy.....

You will not regret it!

I like the Chitlangi because IMO it's the perfect compromise between the ferocious cleaving power of the Ang Khola and the speed/agility of the Sirupati. It's about halfway between the two. Some folks dislike the bell shaped pommel cap, but I love it.

Also IMO, I agree with Mr. Ferguson; the chitlangi is the prettiest khukuri H.I. makes.

I have literally hundreds of sharp & pointy objects. My 21.5" Chitlangi by Sher is my favorite of any of them.

I've bought five chitlangis, three for myself.

A few years from now, I'll probably be full of chit at the rate I'm going.

 I almost forgot the Dharain Chitlangi! It's like a sirupati blade with a chitlangi handle. :D

This is the 18.5" Panchthar Chitlangi I obtained for one of my friends.

It's quick & agile with wide edge bevels and it took a scalpel-like edge.

I tell you, it's amazing to have a knife that big that hangs on your hair! I sharpened up a few of my biggest khukuris last week, and they get super keen!

Yeah, I stropped my khuk a little when it first arrived, just to polish it up....and man it was weird to use a blade that heavy to shave off some arm hair :)

you know what we should do, is start a couple of photo sticky threads dedicated to a few of the more popular khuks. That way everyone can navigate to a specific photo thread to check out the models on their wishlist or newbies like me can see pics from veterans before pulling the trigger. what do you all think? too much effort?
