SureFire 6P vs. Streamlight Twin-Task 2L

MacTech,

Thanks. That's good information.

The one thing that I wasn't sure about on the SL TT was the one switch that made the user rotate between the LEDs and the Xenon. Do you find that to be a pain?

i dont like that myself.

Since nobody else has posted them yet, here's the flashlightreviews.com reviews for each:

Streamlight 2L
Surefire 6P

If you compare the lux readings, the 6P clearly is brighter, but the 2L lasts much longer on a set of batteries.

If you want a good 2 stage light, but don't want to pay the price of a Surefire A2 or L2 (or even an L1) look at the Nuwai TM-301X-3 or TM-301X-5 (3W and 5W respectively). Because of the difference in the way the LEDs are made, while the 5W will put out more light, the 3W will have a more focused spot, and thus throw further, while the 5W will have a floodier beam. I'd go with the 3W myself.

I own the Surefire G2, had a 6P, and both of those had identical light outputs for me, so it would be whether you want a Plastic or Metal casing.

I think that the 6P was very close to the Streamlight TL2 in terms of brightness, but I preferred the TL2, in terms of the recessed tail switch and ability to focus the beam better than the 6P. I felt that the 6P's construction held up better than the TL2 though.

I've also got the Twin Task light, and I agree with the other opinions here regarding its use. Yes the switch is nice, but the Surefire can also be setup to be a one-handed turn on as well. My grip with the switch was that if you soley wanted to use only the LEDs or only the Xenon bulb, you would have to press 1x to turn on the Xenon, 1x to turn it off, 1x to turn on the LED, 1x to turn it off, 1x to turn on the Xenon again. So from off, you'd have to click it 3x to turn it back on... so I found that'd I'd set it up for one way, then need the other, or unnecessarily have to click more than I'd like.

But the Twin Task is my Goto light in the car/Truck... you can't beat a dual stage light that runs off Lithiums. I also keep a few Mini Maglite with Nite Ize LED's in them as well in the car.

On another note, it seems that you are looking at lights in the price range of $40-60, from about 60-80 Lumens, so I figured I'd shoot you this site to check out. The lights are all custom made, and you might not believe the claims, but consider, these are custom made, and have lots of reviews on www.flashlightreviews.com and at candlepowerforums.com. I'm about to get a Blaster JR myself.

I really recommend you check out Elektrolumens.

For the price, a Blaster JR or the Blaster 1R are very nice lights.

The Blaster JR, is about 70 Lumens (I'm pretty sure the consensus is in that area), and runs about 8 hours off 3 AA batteries in a Mock D cell.

The Xm-3 runs about 2 hours at 70 Lumens of 2 AA batteries. Its a 3 watt LED.

Then he's got some of the really really bright lights that run $150 and up.

Geez, thanks for all the info. You wouldn't think it would be so hard to pick out a flashlight.

The other day, I called Streamlight to see if they had any plans to redesign the TT's single switch (I could just see them changing it right after I purchased one  ). The customer service person basically laughed at me and said that the TT has been their best seller for three years and they have sold over 750,000 of them. She said the switch is set up that way for ease of operation and instant access. No fumbling around for different switches, I guess.

Anyway, I'm going to look at SureFires again today. :)

yep, the inova T1, T2 and T3 are all great lights, similar to the surefire but a tad bigger/heavier than comparable models, they have good batt life and are plenty bright, the T1 w/1 123 batt is brighter than the twin task incandescent, the T2 & T3 blow it away imho.

my main point is while the TT is a good utility light its just not a tac light, just depends on your needs i suppose.

I agree with SIFU1A... the Twin Task Light is a perfect "I work at a bar light," good to check ID's with the LED's or do inventory, etc. The Xenon is great for crowd control, etc (but not as bright as the Surefire G2/6P).

I keep one in my car, as well as a few Mini Maglite with LED's.

The Twin Task light would be a good SHTF light, as you get long lasting hours from the LEDs, and a decent amount of light out of the Xenon.

Thanks guys. I'll take a look at the Inova line. I think you've convinced me to look beyond the SL TT.

Best,
Tom

i got a fenix L1P today and really like it a lot of light for 1X AA batt, i would honestly take the fenix over the twin task, much smaller/lighter, at least as much if not more lite than the TT (LED especially or the incandescent though its close), uses AA batts, cool little light.

I was looking at the Fenix L1P yesterday briefly, and I think after comparing it to my Nuwaii Q3, I'll take the Q3. While The Fenix is a little thinner, I think I'd take the brightness and decent runtime of my Q3, rather than the benefit of using AA batteries.
