Hi, I just saw this new fixed blade surefire delta today at a local shop. I was wondering if anybody else has seen this knife or owns one? I thought it was a very interesting blade design. It felt good in the hand, and seemed like it could be a really nice utility/defensive tool.

sounds cool... i like the idea of the folder, but have no clue what the fixed blade would look like

can't find much about it on Google

yeah, i though it was odd that i couldn't find any pics of it on the net. the guy behind the counter said it was just out this year and was a gov. contract for the fbi or cia....or some agency. i can't remember.

hey erik, that's not the knife. the one i'm talking about wasn't a multi-tool style. it was just a fixed blade with a g-10 handle. i really wish i could find some pics of the one i saw. the blade was really neat. it was like a sheeps foot/spear point with a recurve on one side. it was really wicked looking. it was double edged to about 1/4 on the recurve side with a bevel left on it almost up to the handle so you could sharpen it the rest of the way if you wanted. i'm probably going to buy one, so when i do i'll post pics of it.

Thanks for the correction orange1872003 and I am sorry for directing you to some wrong pictures yermom

nah, that was a cool article

so there are two fixed blades and another folder coming out?

ok, i went back to the shop that had the knife and i couldn't get any solid answers on it again. they only had three of them and not a single one had a box or any paperwork. the guy that told me they were from a gov. contract wasn't there, and the guy that was there told me they were a prototype? so, i don't know what the story on this thing is. i couldn't even get a sure answer from either clerk on what blade steel it has, and there aren't any markings on the knife other than SF and a serial #. i do know that they only have three, and they aren't going to get any more. so, either clerk could be correct.

ok, here is the skinny. the knife is called the echo, not the delta. it's new for 07 and you can get pics of it in their tactical catalog. has a green/black g-10 handle and 3v cpm blade, comes with kydex sheath and msrp is 300.

I know what they charge for the folder, you CAN get a Custom knife. If they price the fixed blade in the same price range.....That isn't a bad looking knife.

yes, they are asking a lot, but i don't know what the going rate for cpm 3v is. that's the only blade i have ever seen it on. i got on the crusteel web page and they claim it is better than a2 and d2. they say it resists chipping really well, and i have noticed that my ritter grip likes to chip now and again. i really wish i could get a better pic of the blade because the other side (not visable in the pic) has an edge on it.

Oh yeah, CPM 3V is pretty great stuff. HOWEVER, I understand it rusts if you look at it wrong. (I think Jerry Hossom wrote something like that) I hate rust. 3V is not a steel that I want, but it is tough. I know it's stronger than D2, most high carbon knife steels are, but it is more rust resistant than the others. A2 is really just one HECK of a knife steel. Hard to beat as an all around steel. I'd rather just get 2 A2 knives!

Ever watchful of my quotes.... :)

3V doesn't rust all that easily. It's about like D2. I etch (passivate) my 3V blades and that reduces the corrosion resistance even further. The finish on the blade has a lot to do with rusting and 3V takes a much finer finish than D2because of the smaller carbide size.

IMO CPM-3V is the best knife steel made. Just to put things in perspective, it's lateral toughness is about 8 times that of A2. If it chips, something was wrong with the heat treating or the edge was very ragged to start with. I've never had it chip. It will roll and under considerable stress can even deform, but it won't chip. A customer I had test a 3V blade sunk the point of a 9" fighter about 2" into a stump and bent the blade until the handle touched the stump. The blade retained a bend of about 30 degrees. He then bent it in the opposite direction until the handle touched. It now had a ripple in it. He bent it again and on the fourth bend it finally broke. That blade was at Rc61.

Great steel.

BTW, the comment I DID make about rust with respect to 3V was that when it rusts that tends to happen in a few small spots which will leave pits when cleaned. A light coat of synthetic (teflon containing) oil will prevent that from happening for quite a long time.

thanks for that information mr. hossom. i really like your "narc" knife. i'm looking at severl production and custom makers that produce blades similar to that. bud nealy's kwaito is very similar, or vise versa, but i think you have done a much better job with the grip design.
