surefire delta fixed blade

Mr Hossom, sorry if I got that wrong, I thought I read something like that in Blade a while back.

No problem on the quote. Actually it's issues like these (not really yes and not really no) that make it sometimes difficult to keep the facts straight. Then there is the other fact that different knifemakers AND different knife user have both good and bad experiences. There was that article in Blade that you mentioned where I said I thought 3V was a great steel, and another knifemaker quoted in the same article said he wouldn't have his name associated with it. There is the bending example I mentioned above and the other example mentioned where the edge chipped. Same steel.

The simple fact is that you can't process a steel to make it better than it really is. All you can do is to make it as good as it's capable of being. It is certainly possible, even easy, to make a steel less than it's capable of being. That's more true of some steels than others. It is certainly true of CPM steels. They are great steels that can be made to produce lousy results if you don't follow the rules.

BTW, when it comes to concealed carry knives I think Bud Neely is the best. He's also a terrific guy.

While I haven't met him, another underrated knife maker is Al Polkowski. Very nice concealable knives. Although, I'm sure Nealy's carry system is more versatile, Al knives look great.
