Surefire Knives

I keep looking at the surefire folders, but haven't bought one yet. I'm concerned that the lock side of the handle is not stable (looks unusual with the large cut out between the primary part of the frame and the lock bar. Does it feel solid....I'm sure it probably does, but it just looks like it may not be.

Have you seen much lock wear. My Sebenza's lock seems to sit right where it always has. Of course the lock on the Sebenza is heat treated to form a thin layer of hard carbides (CRK informed me it has a higher Rc than the blade). Do you know if the SF lock is treated like this?

:)

They really aren't worth the price. They are certainly not bad knives, but $150-200 is probably closer to what they're worth. ("What they're worth" here being the price at which people would put them on "knife to buy in x price range" lists.)

The clip looks gimmicky, so does the fact that it tries to be every tool, but that in itself proves nothing. The blade geometry is definitely more tactical than thin slicer, but looking at what you own you seem to like that. The opening hole is not round, so I don't know how well that might work v:(v, Colonial might comment on that.

I'd definitely get a Sebenza instead if I had that kind of money. Or a couple Schatt & Morgan Stockmans.

i have almost bought an alpha a couple of times and like them but i too must say they are overpriced at +$300 for most if not all models, they are top notch in material and F&F though, i dont really like the designs except the alpha but thats a personal thing.

Lock is solid and works very well, could engage a little more on the tang though, no lock wear at all, due to it being titanium I don't think the lock is going to change at all. SF probably has the titanium heat treated enough so it's soft but has the strength it needs....don't know the RC

That's right, I would say $200 is closer to what I would pay for this knife, 400 is too much. I thought the clip looked sloppy too but it holds good in my pocket and have not had a problem, the knob of the clip (where the plastic circle is at sits pretty much in recess of the wrench, so it don't go anywhere. The opening hole is not round but does work rather well, due to the trademark from spyderco, not everyone can have that design...bummer too. Hey it's better than the thumb disk they use to incorperate on it! The blade style is almost likea modified sheepsfoot, not do tactical. The grip is confortable and can be used in different positions for different tasks. The blade is wicked sharp and I am amazed by how much it keeps cutting. The drawback however is the overall thickness of the blade. I know its needed for it's "tacticalness" and you need it to be tough, but I had trouble slicing through 1/10 inch chipboard? (the stuff that's like heavy duty cereal boxes).

Overall the knife has it's pros and cons, the pro's obviously outweigh the cons, the more I carry it the more I like it. Doesn't make my wallet any happier though. BTW thier CS stinks, the knife never came with the screw to replace the window breaker if you were to take it out. I have contacted them numerous times and each time they tell me they will send it out. The average time for you to recieve something is 4-6 weeks....CRAZY!

Anyways, I have said enough, great knife, holds and edge well, very comfortable, CS stinks so hope it never breaks :)
