It's larger. The E2E is about 4.5"L witha bezel dia. of about a 1". The A2 is about 5.75"L with a bezel dia of about 1.13".

i'd imagine it's good for 'discouraging' would-be attackers when jammed into their faces :D

The porcupine is intended to be a self defense tool. The box says Japan only and they are distributed in whole Asia. I love mine. I'm not sure if it's limited edition or not. It seems nearly 2000 have been made already.

How did you get one and can I get one? How much?

I got mine form a company in Hong Kong but they're sold out now. With freight they're about $275.

Ouch!! Pricey. Is it just me, or are Surefire prices just going highter and higher? They lowered the price of the G2, but they inflated the prices of their other models. Hmmm......

That's a great idea.

Got me thinking...

Although the effect would not be quite as dramatic, now that I have the idea in my head I'm considering "porcupineizing" my E1. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do, just gently put the bezel in a bench vice and hit the edge with a round or triangle file to create some horns. Due to the considerable smaller width of the rim they would not be nearly as big, but from looking at my E1 I would estimate that you could get about 1/8 in. of relief in there if you are willing to take it as far as possible.

Since a file will make short work of the aluminum I only see a few real concerns with this.
-You wouldn't want to scratch the crystal or decrease the water resistance.
-It would take a bit of set up to get everything to turn out looking all neat and factory when finished.

If nothing else it should come to considerably less than $275 ;)

Any opinions or suggestions of this?

Sounds like an interesting idea, but then you'd lose the hard-anodized finish where you've filed it away.

Just a note about SureFire serial numbers....
The parts are numbered during manufacture and not during assembly.
I've seen new style KL1s that had serial numbers lower than the original style KL1.
Since the Porcupine shares the same body as the standard A2, the 2000 serial number doesn't necessarily mean that there were 2000 porcupines made.
It's more likely a standard A2 body (and serial number) that had the "porcupine" engraving added later.

after all, if it is restricted to the asian market why is it marked in english? Hong Kong isnt that big.

Just because it's marked in English doesn't mean it will definitely be marketed outside of Asia...

Besides the fact that most of the younger generation in Asia actually does speak some amount of English, the people who don't speak English don't really have a problem with buying things marked in a language they don't speak. Especially if it's just the word "Porcupine" engraved along the side.
