Surf casting

If I remember correctly, the owner of Van Stall sold the company to Quantum, and created Zee Bass.

I don't have a shred of info to add to this thread, as I have never surf fished before. But I have always watched the guys at the beach with great interest and hope someday to add it to my playbook. Lots of great info here! Although I'm sure that west coast surf fishing is different.

If you're on a budget check out the Penn Prevail rods. They may not be the best but offer a very good value in performance vs cost.

I'd like to have ZB $$$ :)

Unless you are wet suiting, swimming out to rocks or wading neck deep, waterproof reels aren't really necessary.
I used an old Diawa (top left) for years and it was fine. Got dunked and splashed occasionally but with good maintenance it still runs fine.
A good hose off with fresh water is necessary at minimum.

This book is supposed to be good. I have his sturgeon book and its superb. NorCal surf catches include striper, perch, halibut. In kelpy rocky areas lingcod and rock cod. I mostly plug inside the bay for halibut. 8'6" steelhead rod and Abu bait caster 14# mono.
