I ordered a complete set of belts from a company out of Ohio called Preferred abrasives.

VFX is the brand for ceramics, 36-180. A bunch of AO from 220-1200. I understand how to use these. Really like the ceramic stuff.

But he added some surface conditioning belts, and felt belt. Do you guys ever use these? Do you add compounds to the felt? It feels like a scotchbright belt.
  • Felt Polishing Belt 1 of each: Felt
  • Surf Cond. Belt 1 of each: Blue A-V.Fine, Gray S-S.Fine

Also, he added some 1X72 scalloped belts. What are these used or good for?
  • Scallop Edge Belt (1 x 72”) 2 of each: 120, 220, 400, 600

The conditioning belts are as you said, like scotch brite. No compound.

The felt belt is for loading with compound and using to polish. It can also work well for final sharpening of convex edges.

The 1” scalloped belts are fantastic for shaping handles as a slack belt. The scallops prevent the edges from digging in and the narrow width gets into tighter contours.

when my blue beltstarts loooking sad i buy another and load the old one with black compound its a great belt finish for carbon steels cause its fine and the waxes in the compound keep any flash rust off the blade
