I just picked up this beauty this weekend and I am looking for a bit of advice on dressing the wheel. I am going to order a new wheel from MSC. What I need some help with is what dressing tool to get, I see a MSC has a holder for around $40. Which dresser should I get I got confused when I saw different carat sizes, almost thought I was buying another ring.

Any advice is appreciated.

I bought a 1/4 carat single point for mine from enco or msc and did as SBuzek said and built a holder with a set screw. The reason I went with a set screw is so I could turn the dresser occasionally without changing the angle of how it dresses. I think it takes a 12-15°. It's pretty easy. I can send you a pic if you want.

Cool! I got the same one today. About 4hrs ago to be exact. Mine needs a new motor though. I traded a chef knife for mine.

Do you have a link to the dresser tool holder you got from MSC? I need to get one to and am not trying to spend $70+ for one

How are you planning on holding the blades to the table? Luckily mine came with a magnetic chuck.

I’ll be watching this thread for sure.

Motor should be easy enough to replace. They are nice little machines.

I actually got the one from Mcmaster that HSC /// posted its cheaper there. https://www.mcmaster.com/#4541a11/=1ace0kb and I would recommend getting the wheel Don posted.

Mine did come with a magnetic chuck I just took it off while I was moving it around. I just need to get a new belt and it should be good to go.

One thing I forgot to mention earlier I thought I'd put out for future reference for everyone. Surface grinders should always have the table removed before transport. Unlike a milling machine, the table isn't actually attached to a surface grinder, it basically just sits on top of it. Its not unheard of for them to fall off and ruin the ways or break something if they are left on while the machine is moved. If it made it in one piece you didn't hurt anything, but its something to keep in mind for the future.

Yes this is good advice. I didn't know that at first. When the seller told me the the table was held on by gravity I removed it right away, with my luck it would have went bouncing down the road. It doesn't help my confidence that Wisconsin has such smooth roads (sarcasm)
