I found this surface grinder locally. Its a Harig 6x18 only used a little. Does anyone have experience with this unit? I think I can get it for around 1200.00

I would be all over that grinder for that price, barring it had a problem of course.

I have a Harig Super 612 which is the same basic grinder as this one but smaller. Really nice grinders with parts availability, service, made in USA.
One of the cool features of these grinders is that they use a constant flow oil pump to oil the ways, screws and other moving parts. Many other grinders use a "one shot" lube system.

That design looks the very same as the Boyar-Schultz brand.

It looks good from here with magnet, diamond holder and diamonds.

You could spend $1200 on a magnet if you were to buy new.

What is the power supply needed?

1ph 3ph? 208v, 230v, 480? Have room? If not I can make room....

Those are factors. But, I've seen similar machine going for a lot more locally.

That should be a great machine.

Sheffield supply make a conversion kit so it can take 2x72 belts or 1x72

Edit: Sheffield supply doesn't make a full conversion kit. They do however offer all the individual parts you will need to convert your surface grinder from the stone wheel to belts. If you can't find the individual parts you need at Sheffield supply, check out Hawkins supply. They have a wide variety of wheels and attachments

I don't have a link. But you download there catalog it's on page 88 or 89. On my fathers surface grinder, when we took the stone wheel off it had a shaft that the slid off of. We just ordered a 8x1 bader wheel with same size hole for the shaft and slid it on. The vertical arm that came with attachment from Sheffeild supply was spring loaded so we just attached it to the surface grinder where it needed to be above the 8x1 inch grinding wheel. It's been a few years ago but me and father both use it regularly and havnt had any problems. You just have to figure out what parts you need and rig it up.
