is there any such thing as a desktop Surface Grinder???
where might I get a thing as that?

tnx/ al

You probably won't find anything such as a benchtop surface grinder. Because of the precision required of such an operation, a lot of machine mass (weight) is required to minimize or eliminate vibration.
I have about 6 or 7 different Grizzly machines and they have one that won't make you go to the bank for a loan!

Isn't that essentially the same machine in both links? They could be considered desktop, though it better be a helluva desk. They're way heavy...
I built a splay-legged table out of 2x4's and lag bolts that's held up well for 20+ years.

There IS a desktop surface grinder, if you can find one. A company called Sanford sold a really cute little machine some years ago

Harbor Freight has one that comes with the option of buying a stand or not.
I have one it gets the job done but it has its faults. It does run on 110v. single phase. Most of the better ones run on 220v three phase. The better ones weigh a lot more. Its all in how much you want to pay.

steierknives, what faults have you noticed? how old is it? I ask only because mine was made in Taiwan in about 1984 and I'm always curious, if it's a mainland Chinese machine, how it compares. thanks!:)
