Ok what do you guys think is better and WHY.

LM SURGE with the tool adapter or SwissTool™ Spirit Plus Ratchet???

Umm... What aspect are we to compare? IMO, the Surge isn't in the same class as the Spirit (and vice versa), so no direct comparison can be made. =)

well which would you have if you were in a bad situation and could only have one.

All else being equal, bigger is better. Since you can't pick your bad situations, a Surge would be the obvious choice because more things can be done with it. Even the extra weight can help in case you need a hammer. OTOH, because of its lighter weight, you would be more likely to have a Spirit on you when Bad happens.

But you never, never know. Once, my ass-saver of the day was the snap on my Leatherman pouch.

SURGE for me, as always.

And especially in a 'Bad' situation. Like if you need tools quickly because of an emergency, one-hand opening blades even with gloves on, the file you could probably use to start a small fire for warmth, the quick-access hacksaw for cutting wood or even small metal objects if needed, the pliers are good for both electrical and mechanical stuff, etc., etc.....

What do you mean by this??

The Spirit is a smaller multi-tool then the Surge. I guess it would be considered a medium multitool, where as the Surge is a big ol', heavy duty multitool. They are used for different things. Like comparing a bulldozer to a Pick-up truck. Both working vehicles. Which is better? Depends on what they are being used for.

Well, I've carried the bulldozer every single day since I got it Christmas 2005 . I stopped noticing the weight around day 4. If you're gonna have a bat-belt like me, it helps to use a duty-style belt. I wear either a bridle-leather custom belt or a Tactical Tailor rigger's belt Either one, and I can carry my Surge, LM bit kit, cell phone, and first aid gloves without even noticing. The TT belt just fits through standard belt loops on regular pants/shorts.
