Surgery, tomorrow!

I got a call from an orthodontic surgeon with the VA at about 1:30 or so today, wanting to know if I could make it in to San Fran tomorrow morning at 6 for surgery

Long story short: they put a plate in my jaw after my accident in April and the bone got infected. It was misdiagnosed several times and now part of my jaw bone is dead and will need to be reconstructed with part of my tibia, yay for bone grafts! They've had no operating time available so I've been on standby, but they told me it would be short notice.

I asked the doc and he said my jaw probably won't have to be wired shut, at least. At this point that's all I care about, I've accepted everything else. Aside from not being able to eat any regular food when your jaw is wired shut, what most people don't consider is that you can't brush the backside of your teeth...

I am very much opposed to general anesthesia, the last time the VA put me out I woke up and needed glasses. Permanent eye damage is a common side affect, it seems, and there's always the chance I won't wake up at all, but there is no other choice, I just have to hope everything goes okay...

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow, thoughts, prayers, and smoke headed your way. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and you don't have to have your jaw wired shut.

I'll be praying for you and the surgery. Never fun but looking forward to your loopy posts here tomorrow night ;)

Thanks gang, it really does make you feel a lot better knowing there's people out there thinking about you!

Just thinking I better eat some bacon before I leave, just in case. I'm staying overnight there so I won't need to rush in the morning, but I'm going to have to leave here soon to catch the "Hoptel" before the guy leaves at 10. No eating after midnight, I wonder if i can take some bacon with me :D

Love and hate VA on occasion. Speedy recovery to you brother!!!!

I had ACL reconstruction with them....the "replacement" ended up tearing and my bone is either growing over the screws (still in there) or they are backing out. Holding out on that surgery......

Got the gift! Thanks!!! We love those things

May the VA docs treat you well. At least better than the military docs have treated me in the past!

Smoke and prayers from NEPA, I've had 3 major surgeries in as many years so I know how ya feel, keep us posted and I'll keep ya in my thoughts.

Best of luck you will do fine, smoke sent from the North East.
