as the drugs slowly drain from my addled mind i released I have ben giving updates in obscure places so her the dope.

surgery was monday and everything went well the surgeon was able to do a "uni" and replaced only the outside "knuckle" of the knee and leave the knee cap. the good new is that this leaves me more option later in life and at 37 that is important. the bad news is the recovery is a little longer. I came home yesterday and am doing well altho I am living life in 4 hour increments. I start p.t. today and hope to be in the shop next week. It will probable be three too fore weeks before I am doing any volume tho. I will give updates from time to time on this thead for those that would like to keep up.

Thank you so very much to all of you in the blade community for your thoughts and prayers they are truly appreciated

Dan

Ps. the knife in the picture is a scandi ground side kick with natural micarta handle and a stainless steel lanyard tube, that may or may not have ben used to make the first incision

Those staples look awesome! Glad to hear that things went well for you! At 40 I am slightly older than you and I know (although it feels like we're getting old) we have a long life ahead of us and need to make the most of it, so I am glad for you that you took care of this now.

Best wishes for your continued recovery my friend!

That should leave a killer scar. Chicks dig scars. Hope you have a quick and easy recovery.

Glad to hear that you are recovering well. Nice looking knife, should have been an easy chore for it! ;)

Understand the "four hour increments." I remember sitting with two tabs in my hand, watching the clock go from 3:58 to 3:59 to 4:00, just to endure the next "increment.

Hang in.

It does. I have one just like it only purdier since mine has healed.

Just take your time with it Dan, and it does take time. I hated the PT but it was necessary to get full extension and mobility, and of course now that it's over I'm glad I did it. Just keep looking ahead and we'll all pray for your quick recovery bro...

That is an awesome BF pic for sure! Way to post it!

Boy, they opened you up good! What happened to good ol' orthoscopic surgery?!

Feel Better Dan!!

Hey , Dan . Glad you made it through surgery . Know the difference between a physical therapist & a terrorist ? The physical therapist shows no mercy ! (It ain't fun but it 's worth it ! ) Hang tough .

I'm in Physical Therapy right now and all I can say is make them hurt you. The more pain you can endure the better they can do their job.

Glad you are having a good recovery man!!

When I had my ACL / MCL surgery I had to be in a passive motion machine....That SUCKED!!! It kept your knee moving all the time. Then every hour I had to do different stretches....Hang in there!!!

Had my first pt session to day with a therapist I have worked with for years. this is my eight knee surgery pluss two shoulder rebuilds, so he knows me. He started to measure my rang of motion and said" now Dan you can move it more then that". And after a few rounds of water boarding I could! the pain is not bad but I am a very independent person and asking people to help me is a death of a thousand cuts.

I am falling into a schedule at home, I have at home pt three times a day, reading in the morning I am working on blades guid to knife making then bladesmithing with Murray Carter is next. This is useualy considered relaxing but between the loratab and the dyslexia it can be comical , I may print my notes as a comedy. I spend the afternoon sketching I have a guard idea that I a can't get out of my head and I am working with an engraver

As always thanks for the thoughts and prayers

Dan

I had minor nasal reconstruction today, and do not envy you the knee at all. Make sure to do physio, but watch out for overexerting- pushing myself too hard broke the plate in my leg and required me to have a bone graft in my leg one month before my wedding. Take care and good luck.

Hang in there Dan we are all cheering for you! I know how tough PT can be but as you know it is worth it in the end. Just imagine all the cool things you will be able to do again when you are better...

Yikes!! Glad your doing well after all that. Heal Quick!!
