Hello everyone,

A surprise package recently arrived...... packed in a triangular shaped box. It could have only been one thing!! But I hadn't ordered it!!

RioJim had sent me a belated birthday present/peace offering for recent exploits..... nuff said!!!!

I did hint for his M43, but hey, I got a couple of those already!! :D :D
I am now the proud owner of the below WWII kukri. Thanks also to Yangdu for sending one exactly like Jim requested.

I haven't got around to using it yet, but will do soon. Think I'm gonna use it as my camping kukri, but at present its the one doing my bedside guard duty!!

Thanks Rio....... a very, very pleasant and unexpected surprise. :) :) ;)

Wonderful package! I've never seen a WWII "villager" before. Very cool camping outfit. Lucky you! :) :D

It's a beauty, K. But then, so are... never mind. Is it the 16.5" or the 18? Both are very nice.

Brian, I don't think it's a villager. Rather, the WD40 hasn't been wiped off. Just a guess. I've got a couple of WWII villagers, and the handles are MUCH more raw (one of the reasons I buy them.)

Hi Aardvark, its a 16.5". Its not a villager. Like you say, I just haven't wiped the grease off yet. For some reason I don't like removing the grease until I have to!! I'm the same with all my kuks, just one of my quirks I suppose!!

Thanks to everyone for looking!

Cheers, Kohei.

Thanks for telling us Kohei.

Glad to hear Rio Jim thought of sending the 16.5 WW2. With wood handle yet.

As you undoubtedly have heard, it's my mostest favorite. Got three of them with horn handles.

I like to think there are plenty of good guys ( almost forgot to add - and gals ) like him on the forum.

Hi Rusty,

There are indeed many good people here on HI and I am very glad to have met them...... be it over the internet of course!!
I find the HI WWII has a strange yet appealing shape. It feels very comfortable in the hand, can't wait to give it a try.

What do you use your WWII's for Rusty and do you have wood or horn handles (or both)?? I am curious!

Cheers, Kohei

Since you camp as well as practice martial arts I thought the WWII a good general purpose khukuri. Not as good as a Ganga Ram or AK for heavy chopping, nor as light and fast as a Sirupati for martial arts. The more I use my 16.5” WWII, the more I like it. I find the 16.5” better for a smaller hand, and it doesn’t weigh quite as much as the 18” (the 18 may work for Simon’s big paws). My wood-handled WWII villiger is a favorite camping khuk, and the cho even serving in a pinch to lift the bail of a steaming tea kettle or pot of curry. Yours should do well on the moors — might even serve to dispatch the Hound of the Baskervilles. I’ve grown fond of the deep belly — does well as a skinner (ditto for the Pen knife). I like the deep belly for martial arts too, whether working “clock angles,” or cutting “X’s” or figure-8’s, since the khuk excels at slashing and chopping. (I know Simon favours those blade-up throat thrusts, but then his primary focus is martial arts and, with a moniker like Sirupati, I would expect him to lean toward the lighter, pointier blades). I’ll leave the fancy stuff to the pros, like Simon or Danny. I like the balance of the WWII, and find it pretty good at feints and redirecting strikes. The HI 16.5” WWII would be one of my go-to-war khuks (along with the HI 18” Sirupati and Tora SF MkIII). I have two khuks by Kami Raju Rasaili (AKA Amtrak), and have found his blades to be well tempered. Enjoy!

Kohei:

The 16.5" WW2 is my khuk for when I don't know what I'm going to need it for. My anything and everything khuk.

And my bedside khuk.

When I put on my Indiana Jones fedora, the 16.5" WW2 is what goes on my belt along with the .357 mag.

Bruise?

When the SARGE knives come in, you'll be getting a gen uuu innne handle hilt spoon!

count yer blessings. :p

Rio,

I shall give it a try with martial arts too then. I see how the deep belly would be good for feinting and blocks..... and i'm sure IT would have no problem dealing with one of the loose wild cats that roams Dartmoor, although I might!! My nerves aren't what they used to be ever since a sloth bear charged at me in Nepal!!

Strangely enough Simon doesn't prefer the Sirupate type blades, but is more a M43 style and WWII horn type man. Though in Nepal when the bear charged..... i've never seen him pull a 15" kukri out of its scabbard so quickly!!

Was curious about the RR initials too, now I know RR = Amtrak!

Thanks again Jim, a great choice.
Cheers ;)

Kohei, if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, Laurie King recently wrote a story called "The Moor", which is set around Dartmoor. VERY good. Many twists. Holmes's 'partner' is a woman: Mary Russell.

That right, you have. And as Kismet says all the time, "we have so much".

Kohei: Sounds like Simon has good taste in khuks, too ;). Man after my own heart, and fellow M43 fan. The pic below has:

  • Tora Special Forces MkIII, 20 oz, 12.5" dui chirra blade, 18" OAL, 1/4" spine, wood panawal thong-hole handle. (The one that crossed paths over the Atlantic with the new Koheitoy).
  • HI 16.5" WWII, blued villager by Kumar, 20 oz, 5/16" spine. My GP blade. Only I don't have the .357 like Rusty. Would you settle for a Webley MkIV? :)
  • Horn handled WWII, w/ bolster forged with the blade like the M43, but styled like a K45. 24oz, 12" blade (not inc bolster), brass pommel. :p
If someone can tell me about number 3, I'm dying to know more (where and when they were made, regimental affiliation, etc.). I'm wondering if this is one of the 10th regt. khuks? (Kohei, you may need to get Simon to e-mail me on this one).

I like the look of that MkIII. The thong hole is neat, but I think it would be in the way for me; I've got pretty big hands.
