Dan that looks real sweet, I like the top one with the more drop point design rather than the more clip type blade...I have a kabar bowie with a a similar style blade, but the swedge chews up a baton..also the Pommel could thick and flat co it could be used for hammering or as an ergonomically sound spot for hammering should you be trying to drive the blade through some wood.. Just my 2 cents...also for a blade of that size and purpose I'd rec, a convex type grind...Looks great good luck cheers.

I like the top one best I think, but they both look good. There are two things I don't like on it though, the finger ring and the flare on the but of the handle on the top side. But that may just be me. otherwise it looks like an excellent big camp knife, i like the overall design.

Dan, I am with TKnife. I am not one for the ring or the flared guard in a survival model.

I like blade shape #2 however.

It's certainly a different design, with that ring in there. I would go with 5160 for a big knife - it is some tough stuff and doesn't pit easily. I don't know about going to 59+ RC, though. 5160 seems to lose some of its toughness very rapidly after 58, so perhaps it would be better to remain at 58 RC.

#2. I Like the looks of a ring guard, but don't like the idea of being pinned to a wiggling pig or a twisting sapling by my index finger. Also, you have stated ( about an earlier knife) that holes at the base of the blade might weaken it. Your WSK has a ring, but not so tucked in line with the blade. Since this is designed as a heavier duty knife than the bush craft knife you made the observation on, is it the best place for the ring? I have not seen the final design of the Bush craft knife, or read many threads past that particular comment, but As person who likes the practical use of holes is blades, you did get me thinking more about the total practicality of a knifes design.
Your handle looks fine, but I would like to see it dropped a few degrees, but not so drastic as a standard "Kuk".

i agree with t-knife too - #1 and lose the ring and the top flare. i'm suprised more makers don't have a more rounded "umbrella handle" style on their large choppers like the valiant goloks or single-shot blackpowder pistols. ergonomically it's a great design style for absorbing impact into the palm of the hand.

Dan, I completely agree with TKnife. No flared top rear guard and definitely no ring in a survival knife. But I think I like design #1 better.
