Has any of you ever taken a survival course ( weekend or week long what ever)
I was wondering what knife you used and what others were carrying?
If you did it again what would take. I would love to take a course someday but have no plan to right now. Just thinking.

I took one back in the 80's. Not much emphasis on knives. It was a little light on hard skills to be truthful.

I think a legit wilderness course would give some suggestions as to size, blade shape, etc. but there is no hard and fast rule on what you should use. Much of it comes down to region followed by preference.

The course I am interested in is in Oregon is much more realistic and I have not decided what I wll take just yet.

I'd just take a good scandi. Could change depending on your budget. Mora 510, 2000, Brian Andrews bushy, bushcraft northwest, Barberfobic, Helle, Karesuando, Kellam, brusletto.

Honestly the knife won't be the most important part in the training. We wouldn't require training if all it took was a knife. Learning how to use a knife, how to get water, make shelter, find food, get found, etc. is the real meat of it all.

I took a week long course last summer. Also not a whole lot of emphasis on using knives. The guy who taught it was great but he was a member of the "I don't even need a knife" club. That being said I used a Bark River Bravo-1 with a Mikro Canadian piggybacked onto it. Had a SwissChamp with me too
