We call our yard "The Wild" because we left everything outside the footprint of the house natural when we built. (No lawn! Yea! My neighbors think I'm a little eccentric, but you can't beat Mother Nature. ) Today a Cholla just beyond our back gate was in bloom for the first time since we moved in fifteen years ago:

This is surely the result of heavy rains we've had all spring.

I leaned over the fence and took a shot of the Cholla looking east down Pueblo Canyon:

Out front an assortment of wildflowers was in bloom:

Our largest Cholla was also blooming, and Karen took some photos as a reference for one of her oil paintings:

I took a few shots myself:

When I'm too busy to take a hike I go out to "The Wild" and think about all the yard work I'm missing. :D

Thanks for joining me. ;)

That might be the coolest back yard ever! Does that gate really keep Dingus in?

So far so good. It's a 5' chain link that is secured with a heavy chain and padlock. I think if he really wanted to he could jump it , but so far he's shown better sense.

Thanks guys. Actually, survival here's not as hard as I let on. 'Cause you can always fall back on the fridge and pantry. However, I do find it necessary to use a BRKT bushie in the kitchen from time to time. :D

Awesome pics, what a great place to call home. Looks like mother nature knew what she was doing in your neighborhood.

Thanks for sharing.

Hey! Great pics Bill!! Its been too long. Whats been going on?

Please don't let this thread go much further without pics of Dingus. I haven't seen him in a while.

Thanks SD. And thank you also for your support during my unpleasant episode with Ilbruche. Much appreciated.

I became preoccupied with a transaction gone really bad on the forum. But that's a done deal now and I'm beginning to enjoy just hanging out and posting again. I've acquired three new Busses in the last couple weeks; can't wait to field test these beauties.

Good to hear from you again Andy. I've still got that rosewood Nessie and custom sheath you made for me. It's still one of my favorites.

Cheers,
Bill

When I clicked on my digital camera to get a pic of Dingus asleep on the sofa the little "beep" woke him up. Happens every time. I took some pics anyway, but he's a little groggy:

Took him outside for the last shot. Still sleepy:

Next set will be from a hike. :D

Thanks HDW! Threads just aren't right without dogs.

It's really something else when the desert is in bloom....I lived in AZ for 9 years...had a great time there.

Rhodesian Ridgeback. He's 3 yrs old and weighs 100 lbs even.

I had been wondering what kind of dog it was. I thoght at first it might be a black mouthed cur. Good looking dog. Also reminded me of a lab I had once with similiar color. Thought the pics were from New Mexico at first. I love the southwest, came from New Mexico. Now I am in Kansas. Land of chiggers.
