survival items

I'm hooked on these new stainless Klean Kanteen bottles: http://www.kleankanteen.com/

A little on the expensive side but they are super easy to keep clean and easy to carry.

+1 I have been using those for about a year
One is carried to work every day and I have dropped it numerous times on the parking lot. Its beat and scarred and keeps going. The thing I like the most is the threads are not delicate, they are loose and sloppy but when tightened it will not leak.

I used to do survey in the jungle for years, minimum two weeks in the forest.

My personal list:
1. Machete (local blacksmith custom golok)
2. insect repellent
3. Cheap tobacco (as leeches repellent, we could use detergent but it is chemical)
4. matches/zippo (i don't have any fire kit yet)
5. wet tissue
6. Military issued poncho (multi purpose, we can use it as tent)
7. knife (copy of herder style by local blacksmith): i am waiting for my Izula and RC 5, have no time to pick it at Indonesian custom.
8. dry bag (we are in tropical rainforest), I used to keep a pair of clothes clean just in case i should meet with government officer on my way back to my office after weeks in the forest.
9. candies (i don't smoke)
10. Victorinox or leatherman (i have both) and Kathmandu nailclipper (issued by Kowell-Korea).
11. water bottle
12. water purifier (but most of time i rarely used it, just directly drink it from the stream)
13. extra supplement: vitamin B or high vit C such as CDR.
14. Compass
15. torch

of course the important things: logistic, we always put salt and chili in our first list :p
The very-very important things: GPS, all weather notebook, map, extra batteries for GPS camera and binocular also rangefinder.
Total weight 27-30kg per person of 4 people.
My friends love to bring their MP3 player.

Great product and I love them too - the best part is that you can just put it right on the fire to boil water

I just got the new wide mouth Klean Kanteen to make it even easier to clean and fill - to make it more conducive to drinking out of, I added the humangear capCAP on it that I've been using for years on my nalgene - it is the best cap around!

Has very lttle trees, you see a few here and there where people planted them and water them on a regular basis, that is about it!

My boss got on a kick a couple of years ago about how many chemicals leach into our water from plastic bottles and offered to buy each of us klean kanteens. I graciously accepted and use mine every day. I rarely buy or drink bottled water now. IMO the stainless bottles are a must have item.

I would have to go with
RC4
Poncho
550 cord
Good Boots
Water bottle or camel bak
Fire steel
There are a ton of other things i would pack but for bare survival items I think you could live off of this
