Survival Kit Flashlight--What do you use?

Midnight Scout, I had a yellow Photon II in my PSK. I chose it for the long runtime with a color I could still see by better than red which also has a long runtime. Come to think of it you can see it here.

When I went to use it or check it ( I don't remember which), it was dead. I am not sure why. Perhaps it got enough pressure to turn on and hold the switch down. I am thinking of trying it with one of the necklace light holders, with the light inserted in backwards to protect the pressure switch. Perhaps I'll substitute my white freedom for the yellow photon II.

On my keychain I keep an Arc 1xAAA that I have had for a long time. It has been reliable. My minimal light for camping/hiking would be that and my Princeton Tec EOS headlamp. Depending on weight considerations, what I planned, or what new lights I got, there might be additions or substitutions. I actually have a red pilot and a white pilot on the headlamp strap. Think clip on photon sized lights. The red one is on the left and turned to face backwards, e.g. for riding a bicycle.

My keychain, although I don't usually have the peanut lighter on there unless I think I might have a use for it.

I think my next psk light will be a petzl elite. It had been a county comm light for a while, and ive tested them out as my sole light several nights. But having my hands free is worth a little extra room to me. I'm also tempted to put a nitecore d10 in my kit. Little spend for a kit light, but maaaan is it an awesome light. Got it several months ago, and it hasn't left my pocket yet!

Donald can you please tell me where you got the 9v blue led flashlight that you have in youre pics? its the one directly above the pen. thanks

For about $7, you can have a Streamlight Nano. I got turned on to their larger lights some time ago and I bought about 4 of the Nanos when I found them at Academy. Simple LED light that I can see across the 4-lane highway with. I just decided to see how far it could throw light and that's what I had to use as a standard.
Also, by having a twist top instead of a presssure switch, you don't have to worry about it getting pushed on by accident.

What do you carry in your PSK for lighting?
When I talk about a PSK, I generally think of something pocket sized, or even smaller. In that case I go for the smallest thing that will reliably do the job, so I use one of those tiny INOVA keychain LED lights.

For my larger daypack survival supplies, I carry a MagLite AA LED flashlight.

I've been thinking about getting one of the more powerful CR123A lights, but the Maglite has worked well for me so far and there always seems to be something else cool to spend the money on.

The streamlight NANO is a great little light for the money and is 10 Lumens. Just thought I would put my 2 cents in:D

Photon II - great

I have Led upgraded minimags in the cars which are good

Dealextreme.com has excellent deals on the latest Led lights Q5's etc the candlepower forums can give a heads up, I have a AA, 5 mode light from DX that is brilliant in my walk traveling kit - along with a Photon II.

I find the 6p's and equivalents a little big for general travel from my taste

for handheld it would be something SUREFIRE and have to be LED.

for a PSK i like a head lamp to keep my hands free.i think mine is a PETZLE.

i also like that little tiny key chain light from FENIX.its called the E01.its on my key chain and has come in handy thousands of times in the last year since i bought it.cheap too.

i have 2 in my kit. an Eternalight and an Ifinity ultra G. most people have never heard of either but that's OK.

Flashaholics know what they are!!

The Eternalight will run 24/7 for 28 straight days on low (w/lithium cells). that is NOT a misprint. brightness is nice but runtime trumps everything in an emergency.

My EDC is an Olight T-20 Q5. very nice light.

The first is probably no longer made (the website's up but no lights are available and IIRC there was a statement saying they were closed for business) and the second definitely isn't--unless there's a good secondary market for them they're probably not worth mentioning. I bought both when they were still readily available and am keeping them.

The infinity ultra G is the Gerber one right? I had one, but it was simply too heavy for it's size and output (though I must admit I didn't mod it). I ended up giving it away to a friend.

No....the infinity ultra G was a CMG light that was specially mfg to government specs. kind of rare now.

I have the photon freedom & Streamlight twin task,Xenon & LED great light in my BOB, photon Freedom & Priceton LED on my person

Maglites 2C cell, 3D cell

Inova X1 1AA

And some Misc. Microlights from CountyComm

I have a streamlight Nano light in my kit, and a RA twisty in my pocket, as well as a Zebralight headlamp in my pack.
