Rick,
Have you ever heard of the Busse Assault Shaker? It's a one-piece, skeletonized knife with a 5.5" OAL, 2.25" persian-shaped blade, and kydex neck sheath that has grommets so you can attach it anywhere. The best part is that it's made from INFI steel, which is the indesputably toughest, best edge-holding alloy in the industry, and it's only $97, which is very inexpensive for a Busse Combat knife. Besides, the Assault Shaker has a much more comfortable handle than the CS B&T does. (I know you can buy 3 or 4 B&T knives for that price, but "cheap" is relative, and you get what you pay for, because the AS will outperform and outlast 3 or 4 B&T knives easily.)

If cost is your #1 criterion, then go with the B&T. However, if your goal is to find the best small survival kit-sized fixed blade knife in the cost-to-performance ratio, then the AS wins.
As for me, when my life or those of my family might possibly be on the line, performance will take precedence over cost every time.
All of this leads me to an interesting question that I will ask in a new thread.
