Okay, after reading many threads regarding which knife for bushcraft, which grind, handle shape, blade length etc. I got to thinking "what if" a person were in the situation where they had to use a knife they would normally not use for a given situation (especially one they like or prefer to use) for their woods work, bushcraft, woods bumming, whittling, shelter making and all the like.

For instance "what if" a person where stuck with, god forbid, a hollow grind, 440hc or 440 you name it whatever cheapo foreign made knife fixed or folder and had to do what a person would normally do for example "bushcraft" would that knife be capable and serviceable?

Here is the survival challenge...Try out a knife you totally dispise, hate for whatever reason for your normal "bushcraft useage". Example: IF you only use fixed blade, try a folder or slipjoint. If you only use carbon blades, try a stainless. If you only use drop or spear point try a clip or tanto point. If you only use a custom try a cheap manufactured knife. You get the idea. But make it a challenge something you really would not use or even dislike for your choice.

I will give it a try. I will try out a 3" tanto fixed blade 440 black epoxy coated cheap wood handled thingy for my normal wood use. I hate tanto points, I hate black epoxy coated stainless steal (what is the point for the black coating)? The knife I've seen costs around 5 bucks so this will not break the bank. I'm curious to see how this goes. Good luck to all that try. Pics would be cool too!

I'm almost tempted to say no SAK's especially the farmer!
