I used to carry and use my Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri out in the bush and I gotta say, the size and weight is made up for by capability. That'd be my first choice. I could leave the axe at home!

If I were to buy a different knife for survival, it would probably be the ESEE 6 or Cold Steel Outdoorsman. I used to have one of the latter, kinda regret selling it.
