Survival Knife

depends on the environment...if it's a jungle then my fiddleback forge 18" machete.

but if it's similar to the ny woods where i most frequent then my busse basic 10" - under a lb for such a long blade and feels very comfortable too.

doubles as a signaling device too :)

what i have in my pocket all the time though is a victorinox bushcrafter and more often than not a mora 510 around my neck so those are most likely what i'll have with me in an emergency though.

Lets say one day you find yourself stranded out in the middle of nowhere for whatever reason, what one survival knife would you want out there with you?
Id say I would want either my SOG SEAL pup elite, or a Tops hawks hellion survivor.

I like my Condor Kumunga.

You go into the middle of nowhere and all you would take (much less want to take) is the SAK and a MORA? And leave such nice, useful steel behind? (I luv the machete.)

For me, it would a fixed blade knife, probably one with a 4 to 5 inch blade. Condor Kephart, Mora MG, Green River, Schrade H-15, Pal RH-35 (USN Mk 1), and so on.

If I get to add one to that, it'll be a 4-blade camper/scout pattern folder. Adding a third would mean a hatchet — aaaand that brings us (well, me at least) straight to the Nessmukian/Kephartian trio:

That's a fairly old hand axe. 1948-1960. Yet another attempt to make something a kid could not break. :D

And, as you probly' know, the folder is older.

Depends some on the where, but id want something with a comfortable handle.

I think id be happy with my bk9, bk15, or a Mora. Maybe a condor bushlore as well, but the last one I used didn't fit my hands as well as id like.

Realistically, id either have my edc, or my bag that I take to work with me. In that case id also have a svörd peasant, sak farmer, and possibly an opinel. I think I could make do with those if needed (which is why they live in the bag).

The folder is the 4-line Camillus Army Engineer's knife, now at an age of 70 to 73 years. The hatchet (I know the diff betw. a true hatchet, which Bridgeport also made, and a hand ax, but this old boy scout still calls 'em all hatchets) is the same as the now-lost red-painted one I had back then, except for the latter's rubber grip.

Still and all, this is a good bushwhacking outfit, and the Kephart stands at the core of it.

OK, I'll play.
If it was a survival situation where I had access to my vehicle, I'd then have at my disposal the following: Ontario 12" machete, Fiskars X7, Mora Companion, Vic Farmer. If it was a hiking survival emergency, I'd have my LT Wright Genesis most likely, or at the least my Fallkniven WM1/Vic Compact combo. If it was a "choose one knife" scenario, it would have to be my ESEE 6. I think that about covers the "survival" situations I think I'd find myself in.

jonnyt16, the Fallkniven A1 would be my choice too. How did you attach the mag pouch and fire-steel to the A1ez sheath?
I used a Maxpedition mag pouch because they come with two horizontal velcro straps (I cut off the vertical ones) which are long enough to wrap around the A1's sheath. This alone however is not enough to keep it on there securely so I added some additional velcro on the sheath itself and the back of the mag pouch. I also used a small black ziptie for extra security.
