I need a good survival knife for making shelters and cutting fire wood. So the knife needs to be able to survive chooping and bationing. I'm looking at the cold steel trailmaster, bowie Natchez San mai 3, ka bar usmc, ka bar big brother and sog creed. I need to which will do the best job and what other knives I should be looking at?

Thanks

ESEE JUNGLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and get a mora knife to handle the little stuff.

ESEE, Becker....I am loving my Ontario SK-5 Blackhawk with Hedgehog sheath...hell of a bush knife.

Becker BK9. I have been impressed with mine so far. It chops well but what's surprising is how well it carves. I wasn't expecting a big knife like that to be so darn sharp and handle well enough to do finer carving tasks.

I wouldn't go for the Ka Bar USMC, I love mine but it's not a knife I'd pick for heavy use, I've seen quite a few broken where the blade & handle meet.

Ka-Bar Becker BK9. Large enough to chop and spilt, light and nimble enough to be fairly decent with smaller work. It also chops better than any 9" bladed knife I've ever tried or seen it compared to.

I tested the BK-9 and RAT-7 against the TOPS TFK for chopping, batoning, and feather sticking, and the TFK was head an shoulders above the other two, FYI.

I'm going to give you advice. I know it sounds badass to baton wood and hack away at saplings and vines with a fixed blade, but it's just not that practical. Yourr better off getting a medium sized axe or a hatchet, then a fixed blade for smaller tasks (I suggest swamp rat or tops b.o.b.) and Maybe a secondary knife, like a Mora, or a solid large folder.

Well, he used big orange all caps letters and profanity, so he must be right.

Folding saw and/or small ax are what you are looking for IMO. No screaming necessary.

Well, looks like someone missed a few doses of their Ritalin recently. I understood that much anyway.

I'm digging my Survive Knives GSO 4.1 factory second. Its a great sized knife and makes a perfect companion knife to a bigger knife like a BK9 or a Esee Junglas or even a small axe/hatchet. The factory seconds are still top of the line in my opinion, the only thing wrong with them is cosmetic shit like a scratch but who cares its a knife its meant to be used and it will get scratched eventually anyway.

Moras are also good and cant be beat for the price. I recently gave mine away as a present for christmas so it looks like I'm in the market for another one haha.
