Survival movie or documentary

The Robert Conrad movie of the ship wreck stranding himself, son, and two daughters in Alaska. Mears discusses this story in one of his Artic series. My Side of the Mountain, The Hatchet, Escape from Wildcat Canyon, Alive all have their good points. There was an old movie with Sally Strothers in which she and a pilot were stranded in the northern wilderness for several weeks. Had a lot of religion in it, but I would like to see it again. I believe it was based on a true event. Dick Proeneke's documentaries are among the best. The Canadian reality series Pioneer Quest is really good. Unfortunately not available on VHS or DVD. The movie/docudrama starring Charles Martin Smith living in the wilderness to study wolves is great entertainment. Once again, based on true events.

For the Pioneer Quest show, you should check out their website.

Alone Across Australia is the best I've ever seen. Of all the survival documentaries, shows, movies, etc, this is the only one to bring tears to my eyes. Just like the title says, Jon Muir and his dog, Seraphine, trek 2500 km across Australia and live totally off the land. Pretty amazing stuff and I recommend it to all of you guys.

Non-Fiction:

How 'bout a chick movie for a change? An old chick movie at that. Strangers In Good Company, about a group of elderly women on a bus trip who get stranded in a remote area, and don't feed off each others' corpses, engage in a deadly game of cat and mouse, or fall victim to a spreading plague which causes it's victims to become the living dead.

I really enjoyed a little movie that came out many years ago called, First Blood. :)

There are many that I have watched, but cannot remember the titles. Ben East wrote several accounts of a trapper and his wife. The wife endured unbelievable hardships, both before and after his death. This was made into a movie, or movies. A few years ago I caught a part of one about a young couple in a wilderness survival situation. I think it was Alyssa Milano who played the wife. There was the very famous movie when I was young that starred Cornell Wilde surviving an escape across a portion of Africa. I wish that my memory served me better on these. Sorry for the sparse info.

I have to say one of the most realistic survival movies was the Road, very dark movie but seemed to be what it would be like. Also another one coming in Jan The Book of Eli looks pretty good as well
