Survival Movies

Rescue Dawn with Christian Bale. Quite a story of survival and a great will to live.

I have no urge to go crazy, run into the woods and off myself, if that is what you are asking.

Every single person on earth who has not committed suicide is better at surviving than McCandless.

I dont Chris had any intentions of going into Alaska to die.

he wanted to be free, on his own and with nature. I get that.

he didnt prepare well for what he was doing. a 25lb bag of rice is not going to do it. he didnt know his surroundings, he should have used the bridge crossing a mile up the river and this could have been prevented

along with mold on his berries.

I wish I could do what he did for a week or two. no kids, no work, no tv, no computer, no nothing

Naive kid wanted an adventure in Alaska, not prepared, he died.
Not suicide just a stupid kid who lived more than most.
I'm not idolizing him, just respectful of his sense of adventure.

Death Hunt with Charles Bronson and Lee Marvin (nope, not Death Wish ;))

Seraphim Falls, although the end got really strange

I not much of a movie person but I realy enjoyed The Edge, Death Hunt is another good one and one of Charles Bronson's more overlooked movies.

What about the one with the soccer players that crashed on the mountain and had to eat each other? Alive?

Did anyone mention "The Hunted"?

"alone in the wilderness" Dick Proenneke survived up there for close to 30 years. made his own life up there in Alaska. not necessarily a survival movie, but damn impressive in my book.

Hatchet by Gary Paulsen was made into a crappy TV movie, I think. The story about a young boy who crash lands in the Canadian wilderness and uses little but his Hatchet to survive. Great book. I loved it as a kid. Reread it again a few months ago. Simple, but still good, light reading.

Let's also not forget Richard Proenneke's documentary, Alone in the Wilderness. The guy only survived in relative isolation for 30 years, but but he also built himself an amazing log cabin that I think any of us wouldn't not mind calling home.

Ok, let me start by saying this is my first post. Ive been lurking for a while, but I love knives and movies/docs so this is an ideal first post.

Dick Proenneke is an amazing man, Alone In The Wilderness was just so well made and told one of the most amazing stories Ive ever heard. Guy moves to the Alaskan Wilderness at 50 years old and lives there for 30 years! Plus he built everything with his own hands, except the metal parts on tools and his gun, other then that he did everything. If you like that doc, watch "Silence and Solitude" and "The Frozen North", both also about Proenneke. Id almost say it was less "Survival" and more "Thrival".

As far as movies, like mentioned by many, "The Edge" is amazing, it just stuck with me since I watched it. Hopkins was great but I loved Bart the Bear!

"Into The Wild" was really good too, and I totally get what the guy was doing. Sometimes I think about just packing a bag and going off to live off the land, but I think Modern comforts have weakened me too much to survive for an extended period in the wild.

The novel "Hatchet" was such an amazing story, It deserves big screen treatment. Very light read but very good story.

"127 hours" was a really good movie, but I bet dude wishes he brought a Becker!

That film changed my way of thinking, about alot!!
For example; Age, solitude, nature.....

Sense and Sensiblity. If you can survive that movie, you're one tough SOB and can survive anything.
