Anybody here have any experience with those aluminum take down saws? I remember one called the Svene saw. It made a triangle when assembled and felt really flimsy. I know there are other kinds out there. What do you think of them? Anybody have a field report about a wooden take down buck saw? I have seen those around but I haven't used any. What sucks and what has earned it's keep?

I have and use a Sven saw. It gets used mostly when I walk the cattle trails and open them up in the spring. I like this tool though there are other saws that other people like better such as the Sawvivor. The Sven saw is not flmsy at all BTW. I recently bought, of course, a Bahco Laplander folding saw. This is a slightly better built Sierra saw. I haven't really used it enough to write an opinion about it but I think it will work just fine. One brand a wooden saw is the fastbuck, I don't own one so nothing to report.

Ditto what 2dogs said about the Sven saw. I have used it when camping for many years now. When it is assembled it is surprisingly sturdy.

2dogs - I have checked the Bahco Laplander folding saw and it looks alot
like the Kershaw folding saw that I have. You might want check it out on Kershaw's WEB site. What do you think ?

Ronin they look to be one in the same. A good solid little saw what ever the name.

2dogs - thanks for confirming what I thought. By-the-way, the Kershaws cost
less.

Yes. The Bahco Laplander, Kershaw, and Sandvik saws are all made by the same company (I think it's Bahco). I have a Sandvik, and it works great. Positive lock-up, light, and cuts like a mother. I've used the Sven, and it's not too bad, but the time it takes to assemble it, I've already pulled out my folding saw, done the job, and am on my way...
