Survival School SERE

Hey thanks for posting the link. I watched the first episode and it's really good. It's a special treat for me because we don't have cable.

Yup, it's on MOJO HD. I posted a link a few weeks ago, but at the time they only have one episode there.

Does the mojo hd have episode 2, I can't see it. The Hulu will only play in the US.

Sweet. I watched the first episode, seemed ok. I'd rather see more of what they are learning, and them working through their learning mistakes. I'm also curious of their gear.

I've got some extra time on my hands, so I might check out a few more.

Unfortunately the show doesn't really deal with survival but more of the dramatic aspects: Who will fail? Will Johnny be able to lead his squad to the campsite in time? and the exciting bits: people eating banana slugs and cow eyeballs; hypothermia and heat exhaustion; big blisters.

I still watch it but I doubt you will learn much.

Nemo,

According to an article I read, "The SERE program is used by the Army at Fort Bragg, where Green Berets train, and at the U.S. Air Force Survival School near Spokane (Fairchild AFB) where thousands of other trainees are instructed annually.
Here is an article about them.

Yeah, I know the SWC program well.

I did not know that the AF called theirs SERE also and that it pre-dates the SWC school

i really wish i could sharpen their axes for them;)...if you look at the cuts in the logs you can that they are pretty dull...

i only watched the first episode, but might watch more. it seems like a decent show.

msiley.....thanks for sharing! Do you know how I can watch all the episodes, do you know if they will be on-line as well?

Thanks

There was a guy the cut into his foot after the axe skipped of the log.

Dull tools + inexperinced people= missing limbs

just watched a couple more...i picked up a tip or two that i either forgot about or didn't know about...

i feel bad for those guys walking all that way in those boots.

benchmadebob, that's why i kneel when chopping...

I was watching the second episode and they are working on making a thing to keep the food away from predators. They first start by building a ladder, which they basically build out of logs. They could have used much smaller sticks, which would result in far less cutting. It would take less time, tire them out less, and not wear down their wire saw. It didn’t fully show what they were doing, but it looked like they had logs lashed up in the trees and used a parachute to hang their food. Why not just throw some 550 over a tree branch. That would seem much more ideal especially since all the army seems to care about is doing things fast and efficiently.

I’m not trying to criticize their teaching as they may know something I don’t, but I don’t see much point in how the did it.

There seems to be only 7 on there (do a search or look below
the video if you didn't see the other 6). Not sure if this
is a current series and more will come out or that's all they
wanted to put up.

What is it with military boots? They didn't hike that far and their feet are in
horrible condition. I guess the boots are built for toughness and not comfort?

Anyone here been in the military and had to deal with long marches in issued boots?
