Survival Skill Movies?

Movies are great fun and I love 'em but I take all that stuff with a major pinch of salt.

I really enjoy the Edge for example, but what a load. What Anthony Hopkins manages to do with that one little knife always makes me smile. Not to mention him killing that monster grizz solo with a sharpened stake. Yeah, right. :jerkit:

The Hunted is also dubious, although the knife fighting was well done, due to the fact that they had some proper advisors on board. I think its way Hollywood though.

There are some great books about real survivors though. I'll start a new thread about my favourites.

Nanook of the North

It was the first full length documentary film ever made. It's about the ways of the life of an Inuit family on the pack ice. (Watch what these people can do with a walrus tusk knife!) The director spent several years there, making this movie.

I know that kodiak-bear originally was apparently asking about Hollywood movies with survival and knife use, but this thread has kind of morphed into "survival movies". I just recently created a list of our survival and outdoor DVDs, many of which have been mentioned here. I think I have collected most of the relevant titles on DVD, but if you guys can think of any others that we should add, I'd love to hear about them.

That's an awesome collection. Need to join huntflix soon. Maybe Santa Claus will here my pleas.

EDIT: I just spoke with Santa Claus and she didn't seem excited by the prospect of me watching all of those. I better be good.

Bear was like my outdoor hero until I heard about all of that hotel stuff a couple of months back, but I still like learning a little from the show. Though it's not quite the same now that I know he's actually hunkering down after a fresh shower everynight in a fancy hotel

Yup, I feel the same. Its like when your really young and find out Santa isn't real. Let down....

When I found out about santa I freaked out and thought that easter and all of the other holidays were going to end 'cause I thought "how are we supposed to get presents if they don't exist?" Now I just worry that 'santa' is going to bring me the wrong knife and flashlight!:)

Thanks, nemoaz. If you see any obvious holes, please let me know. I'm trying to make our collection exhaustive (as opposed to exhausting!)

You should email exact web pages to Santa. Works fine. Unless you've been bad.

Yeah, now that you can email Santa, you can link right to the item you're interested in. Of course, so can she . . .

Now was tht santa@northpole.com or .org?
