Hey guys,
I just finished my latest... Kind of a survival spear/assassin weapon/bootknife/dagger.... Anyway you be the judge. Thanks for taking the time to look at this! 1095, deeply hollow ground on three sides w/ 3 sharp edges, 550# paracord wrap, hand rubbed to 2000 grit, 10 7/16"OAL, pronounced "compliance pommel" (nerve center strikes etc.)
I call it the Ridgeback Knives "Specter"
WADDYA THINK?

That is cool. I like the hollow ground triangular blade, what shape was the steel when you started?

What size of wheel did you use and what type of edge does it have?

Thanks!
If you've seen any of my other "new knife" posts I use Nicholson files (known 1095) Tempered down to mid/high 50s RHC. This was a triangular file. I used a 4x36 belt grinder w/ a 2" wheel (I think). Due to my inexperience w/ terminology I can't tell you what kind of edge it has, only that I hollow ground until both (in this case all three) sides met. I'm thinking about doing a secondary bevel just to make sharpening easier for the future owner.

Triangular files! I have to do this eventually. It does seem hard to sharpen to a shallow angle.

That's great! One year, way back in the early 70s, I did something similar except all I did was grind the file cuts off on the side of a grind wheel. It actually got very sharp. I don't know what happened to that thing but you just gave me a real nice stab (!) of nostalgia. Of course, my file was small, and yours is fantastically right-sized.

I really like the deep hollow grind - that is exceptional. I think you could sharpen it simply by rubbing two edges on a flat surface. I like the name too! Thanks for sharing, that's fun to see.

I like it.

The slight hollow grind on the triangle has a very elegant line to it.

I have something similar in mind with a very small domed rearward guard.

oh an is that a Kimber? You don't need that. Send it to me and I'll take care of that for you.:D

Ahhhh and here I was expecting a full length spear not a poingard.....

Nice work anyway, hollow grind in a triangle, that is cool.

I swear you make some of the coolest stuff here. You should sell these in the knifemakers forum.

I was hopeing for a full length spear as well.
It is a great looking little stabber though and much more useful in close combat now with modern body armour. It is long enough to pierce heavy winter clothes but short enough to wear on a forearm or leg. The triangle is a brutal shape because it makes a horrible wound that can't be stitched up.

Thanks guys,
Dave, I think I will take your advice on the sharpening.
Steven, just send me your address, and the Kimber custom TLE/RL II is yours:jerkit::D
I can't sell on here because I am a lowly Gold Member (I thought I would get the ability... I was wrong)
The term spear may require a little inginuity (sp?) on the owners part... There are two deep grooves not only to stabilize the wrap but also as attatchment points on a field expedient spear shaft...note the paracord wrap startin' to make sense now eh? I just got done mirror polishing the blade, kydex sheath coming next then off to the whorehouse for 'er (3bay) I'm gonna miss this one. Hell I may even hang on to it until the next gun show... I dunno.

Polished pics...
