What I actually carry/use when I go in the woods;

Becker BK-7 This is what I use to chop, clean camp, shelter, other camp chores.

Vic SAK Trailmaster carried in BK-7 pouch has saw, locking main blade,awl... used for cleaning game, saw cuts bone/wood....

Leatherman Wave does about everything else.

In the BK-7 pouch I carry fire making supplies, sheath wrapped with para chord, inside the handle is extra tender....

Ive gotten by easily with my Fehrman Final Judgement and my SAK Rucksack. But to be honest, the more I practice different holds with my Fehrman,I can honestly say I could get by pretty easily with that blade alone.

But since you are asking for 3 blades

Fehrman Final Judgement

Rucksak

Livesay Air Assault

One day im going to get the peace maker from Fehrman:D

The three blades I am carrying in my pack for trips at the moment are:-

1. GB Small Forest Axe.
2. Laplander Folding Pack Saw.
3. Fallkniven F1. (On test at the moment).

To be completely honest I also carry a Victorinox Swisstool X but as you only asked for 3 blades I would drop this.

Depending on what terrain I was going into I may trade the Laplander Pack Saw for a Bow saw blade, curled up in my billy can. I would then fashion a bow from a suitable piece of wood if I needed it.

I usually carry a 4.5" scandi ground custom knife by Allan Wood instead of the Fallkniven.

Cheers,

Tony.

I had to give this some thought, as I usually have at least 4, upwards of 6, knives on me for "optimal performance"; and because I just plain *like* them, of course. :D

But if limited to 3, and in order to get the job done with a minimum of fuss, I'd choose my Kumar Kobra khukuri, Leatherman PST and an Opinel folding saw. Anymore I prefer to saw instead of chop, so the khuk is there for its role as a splitter of the wood harvested by the saw, and for shaping wood and just general purpose use. The Leatherman would cover everything else.

I actually had a hard time coming to choose the PST, as I was originaly thinking of my Victorinox Mauser. But I like to have pliers handy in the bush, and the PST has all the same tools (and a few more as well) as the Mauser, except the saw, but that's covered by the Opinel. The only real stumbling block to choosing the Leatherman was that the PST I'd had before this one had a really poor knife blade. The old PST blade wouldn't take OR hold an edge worth a darn; but this later model PST has MUCH better steel in the blade, as well as a better grind and shape to the blade.

With those 3 on my belt, and my M6 over my shoulder, I'd feel just fine. But I'd switch the .22lr pistol for my GP-100 in .357, please. ;) :p

Hey V,

How is it going? I had a baby boy on the 4th! :D

Why would you choose the PST over the Supertool?

Congrats, Chris. I've been busy elsewhere or I'd have seen this sooner. By now Mother and daughter are home and you're likely suffering from too little sleep. ;) :)

I chose the original PST mainly as I've never even seen, much less used, the Supertool. But over the past few years I've gone on a roundabout "quest" tring all sorts of different combinations of SAKs and multi-tools, and I even had the gigantic Gerber 800 at one point. But after all that I ended up coming back to the relative simplicity of the PST and my Vic Mauser (clip point and spearpoint blades, awl, corkscrew and combo tool of: saw, can/bottle opener, screwdriver). These 2 do everything the larger multi-tools do, but are slightly more compact, weigh less and have the added advantage that I can use the pliers on the PST to hold a nut while using the screwdriver on the Mauser to back out a screw.

Mainly I just prefer having all of those tools spread out a bit more, to increase versatility.

I'm heading out for two days in the mountains tomorrow. I will have three blades along: 10 inch Tramontina Machete, Air Force survival knife, and an SAK. Mac
