Survive by your wits...

yeah snow sucks!! I feel you Adam, luckily we still have power. We also only live like an 1/8 of a mile from the power station so we have that going for us.

We are getting it up here now and it`s supposed to last most of tomorrow (Wednesday). Thank goodness I work at home. I was supposed to go to my downtown office for an all day meeting but due to the weather we`re doing it by Live Meeting and conference call instead.

All you guys that have to be on the road, stay safe!

not trying to crap on your thread, i have a 2wd truck and make it just fine for the last 12 years. have not missed a day of work and pick up others on my way that try to call in.
i do not have a child but would agree with your post if i did. i wear tennis shoes and boots...keep extra clothes and boots in truck just incase. among other things that might be needed. i get by no problem...

The key to your post is that you have the extra gear with you if you need it.

A 2 wheel drive with no weight in the back is helpless in 18" of snow, not to mention 3' drifts. Getting out on a night like this with a 2 month old is foolish to say the least.

Its close to 20" here in Illinois and the storm is still going strong. In some places there are drifts close to 4 feet.

Stay safe, bud. My car was a block of ice before. I chiseled it off and somehow slipped and slid up my driveway. Got out to the street, went 1/4 mile (in 10 mins), then turned around and called my boss from my parking lot. Eff that noise!

That means using your head and not driving through a blizzard in a 2wd truck with a 2 month old inside. While wearing tennis shoes no hat gloves or coat. Power is out here and we are hunkered in. Im done playing samaritan for tonight i hope. More later when we have power I hope. I am evaluating my preps if nothing else.

It also means thinkiing straight when a cougar in stilettos asks for help walking from her car to her apartment in the snow. Stay safe adaman04

One more reason i also stockpile propane and 2 small space heaters. But then again im in arizona so not too cold. Anywhere colder and i would either be on a generator or full solar. Should have my solar installed this year sometime. The only people who will survive are those who learn to not depend on big brothr to take care of us.

Last night I sat quietly and listened to ice covered branches and trees cracking and falling. Today I walked across the yard and almost busted my ass. The blades of grass were frozen and supporting my weight...

We're having a heat wave
A tropical heat wave

Some dumbass driving out for a last-minute shoe shopping run?
Shoulda left 'em out in the cold ;)

Dude you're exactly right. Thinking before doing can save a lot of trouble for everyone. Now if only I could remember my words when SHTF

Stay safe my cousins to the South.
Don't be heroes. If you're not prepared or equipped to be out in the snow, stay in.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

I'm not sure where leaving an infant out a whiteout snow storm ranks on your list of things to do, but it's pretty low on mine. If it was just the adults, I might have been less concerned and told them to just walk back to their house, wasn't that far.

I think the best skill we can have is thinking it through beforehand and considering other alternatives and the consequences of the choice we make.

Slightly off topic but has anyone seen the pics and video footage of the snowstorm that Nigata Japan got? It's a coastal area and the vid footage I saw on TV shows snow 10+ FEET high with a total build up of over 13 Feet! Some houses you can only see the roof!
No pics on this link but there are more details of the storm.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share in case anyone was curious to see what it looks like.

Luckily we didn't get the accumulations the meteorologists were calling for, maybe 15cm and not the potential 30+cm they were saying was possible. I only had to shovel my driveway 5 times yesterday!

Stay safe gang.

From a couple winters ago. It's a similar scene out back now.

We are still without power. Have been since Tues night @ 6. Power co has no idea when it will be back up. I hate Illinois!
