Survive-Gear GSO 4.1 in M390 - Impressions.

I plan on starting the testing today, the rope and cardboard part of it.

Looks like a decent blade ankerson! A good balance between being a tank and a cutter.
Nice PW smoke creek BTW

Jim, what does M390 do that SLIGHTY less expensive steels like Elmax, S35VN or CTS-XHP do not do and vice versa? Also, how does the M390 knife compare to Guy's standard CPM 3V blades?

You will get a rather large increase in edge retention with M390 over the other steels with the same edge geometry, finish etc.

We know how tough 3V is, but with the other steels mentioned I haven't noticed any loss in toughness or edge rolling, chipping issues with M390.

I don't know about the difference between Guy's 3v and M390 blades, I would say in this model 3V would be overkill toughness wise and would recommend M390 due to the increased edge retention and stainless properties.

On a side note I am in the process of testing the knife and it's showing extremely well so far. :)

I bought one about 5 days ago, still waiting for it to ship...:grumpy: How long did it take Guy to ship your knife after you placed your order? I know it's still early days, but I just can't wait for it!

Specs on mine:

M390
No bow drill divot.
No ferro rod notch (wasn't an option when I ordered).
Orange G10.
Tumbled hardware.
Coyote sheath.

I look forward to hearing your overall opinions on the 4.1, but I would really like to hear about the M390. I have used 3V extensively in the past, but I have never even touched M390. Thanks for all the pics!

Thanks for the review! My GSO 4.1 arrived today and I am extremely pleased with his blade! Keep up the great work Guy!
