I am completely tired of multi-tasking in general. I think we think we need to do multiple things at once in order to feel efficient. I see my students walk and Text - drive and put on make up - and surf the internet and eat.

I just left a public restroom where a guy was closing a Craig's list sale from the shitter.

Something has gone wrong with our society.

i agree.... i have been spread waaaaay too thin lately...:( 2 wild ass boys will do that to you i guess...:o

I have two wild ones too Mike - I just passed up two promotions this year so that I could just chill with them more.

I also backed off my 10.5 month contract to a 9 month contract (8,000 less) so that I could have summers off to hike and camp.

I am trying to do ONE thing at a time. But I am also grading papers right now.

I think if we want to be simpler - we should live simpler.

I agree. Since my wife has finished school we have been in total chill mode. Very little TV, go for walks with the boys every night, hike with em, Ive been riding bikes alot, and generally just taking it easy for a change. Actually a huge change. The past 8 years have been spent with either me or my wife in school, working full time, and raising kids. Im totally zen now. Its great.... For me, the only way to live is simply. Ive noticed Im happier, my bedside manner at work has improved, and I feel fufilled.

I barely even drive my car anymore. Im on the bike or walkin with the boys, takin it slow, and enjoying their company. People cant believe that. They are like "whats wrong with your car? Its faster to drive!" I say to them, "why be in such a hurry?"

One thing I've noticed about taking it slow is people think I'm lazy. To some extent I am but I enjoy sitting doing nothing a lot more than some people enjoy doing projects.

I respectfully disagree that you're sitting doing nothing, what you're doing is enjoying the freedom from outside influences, to simply enjoy your time, which really is quite rare nowadays!

Folks talking about "spending time."

Truth.

Fundamentally, it is the only currency we have in life. No way to replenish the funds, once spent.

I hear it! I don't know if I'm getting burned out or what. Sometimes I HAVE to multi task though. At work, I can't do what I do without having a spanish audio-lesson in the background. But, I am typing right now while COMPLETELY covered in grease from working on the Cherokee. Back to it though!

One of these days I am going to finish everything and just sit there and listen for a long time.

I am primarily a monotasker, and find it disturbing while at the same time amusing that many people cannot function without music. I get as much or more done than my peers, but really think that the only real difference is that monotaskers get half of everything done, while multitaskers get everything half done.
