Just came across Survivorman on Discovery Channel ! He cut a vine with a small knife and cut his finger too !!! So much for TV and that's why I don't watch those programs !.

One reason why I like that show is he shows his mistakes as well. They could have easily edited that out.

I haven't seen that one, but it could have made a good lesson about field dressing a wound.

I liked the one before that one, were he was with a wreaked plane. He had an axe and he said he was going to show how to survive while injured.

He aimed the axe at his left wrist and when he brought the axe down, he hit the plane and said, "Just kidding."

For a minute there I thought he was really going to break his wrist. It was hilarious.:D Then he wrapped up his arm like he was injured.

I like this guy. He is fun to watch.

I laughed when he cut himself. I knew he did it as soon as the knife went through the vine. Much better material than Bear.

I like that he shows things in a calm no hype way. Ofcoarse, its still TV, but he is fun to watch.

For me this kind of honesty is the driving difference between Les and that little cub boy. For example on the Survivorman episode where Les is set adrift off the coast of Costa Rica (I think it was Costa Rica), they showed when Les was out of radio contact with his rescue boat as well as when they decided to tether the raft to the rescue boat and tow it to safety. On an equivalent MVW episode we got to watch cub boy “build” a raft and “drift” for several days at sea. We all know, watching the show, that these things could not have happened as shown but none the less this was the way the show was edit. A little more honesty would give MVW a LOT more credibility.

Okay that and having Bear stop pulling all those “dear God please weed me out of the gene pool” stunts.

What makes his job tougher is that he has to cover much of the ground multiple times to set up cameras, walk back past them, etc.

I like Bear's show as well but it's more entertainment.

I have too many scars to count. Thats why I laughed when he cut himself. Been there done that saw it coming.

X39, rarely and never anything serious. He grabbed the vine with one hand and cut it off with the other ,not complicated and not something that should cut you.

I think we have to keep in mind that he was exhausted and mildly dehydrated (that's why he tried to cut the vine in the first place) and probably wasn't thinking straight. Although I did find it kind of funny in a slightly sadistic way :D .

I thought it was great. Shows how you make stupid mistakes when you're tired and depleted.

So much better than bear. I watched a MvW last night and especially now more than when I just suspected he was a fake, it's awful. You really pick up on so many things that are horseshit. Les is a cool guy and I hope bears misforture turns out to be good for him.

edit: and btw it's the easy stupid things that usually get me hurt.

I saw that show as well. The last few posts about him being tired and making mistakes makes the show that much better. Bear would fake being tired by dragging his feet and being overly dramatic. He is definitely unlike his famous countrymen when it comes to acting.

I love the part in the costa rica show, where Les says, "I would normally stay on the beach and wait for help but this is a survival show after all." That kind of honesty is refreshing. It speaks volumes of his integrity.

Funny, I find Les' show similar to "No Reservations" it is more like travelling with a personal tour guide instead of an egomaniac drama queen.

He was distracted by the monkey. :D

Stroud showing his mistakes and bloopers is part of what makes the show interesting. On the Georgia episode he came across a rattler. Instead of editing it to where he appears to calmly sneak up on it and capture it with his bare hands, as might be done on another show, they show him yell "Oh s#!t!!" and commence to beating it to death with a big stick.

A little off topic here, but I have a question for you guys. Last week I watched Off the Grid, which included some footage of Les Stroud rehearsing with his band. Does anybody know what his band is called or where I can buy an album?
