I haven't seen a thread on this (though I could have missed it), but Les is back tonite (Aug 19) on the Discovery channel for what appears to be a series of "specials". Tonight at 8:00 pm EST is "Mexican Desert Island" part 1. "With limited food and no fresh water, Les attempts to survive on the desert island of Tiburon."

Just a heads up for those who care. I like Les, and his adventures almost seem real. :)

:thumbup:Thanks PN,I've been waiting for the new season to start.Time to set the DVR.

I was scanning the TV Listings earlier and always check Discovery for what is scheduled for "today". Saw that they are running some Man Vs Wild shows this afternoon, and older Survivorman episode, and then the new one at 8:00 PM EST. Hopefully, with 10-days, he will have to do something more than be the starving man.

There were 3 or 4 episodes on here in Canada in the month or 2 preceding the Olympics.
"Survivorman 10 days" were on OLN.

It's times like these when I wish I had TV.

I'm in the same boat. I have a TV hooked up to a DVD player but no cable or antennae. I've been thinking that buying the season box sets to survivorman might be a good set of DVDs to have.

It is interesting though. I had netflix for a long time and that's all we watched. Now that we don't have it I really don't miss it all that much. I have noticed my beer consumption raising though.

Don't seat it, they usually end up on youtube. I cancelled cable about 10 years ago and believe me just about every show available usually for free shortly after it airs.

Tonight's episode was great. Looks like each episode will be 5 days with a to be continued. Resulting in less overall locations but it's giving it a whole new element.

I catch Les when I can, same as the Dual Survival men. Good heads up though. I have one of Les's books, I should read the bloody thing some time.

Saw it last night. He's was using his Camillus Survivorman knife. Couldn't tell if it was the fixed blade or folding model. I know he got a lot of crap for attaching his name to that company on various forums, but at least he's putting his money where his mouth is and actually using his namesake knife in a semi-survival situation. Shows that you could get by without the fanciest steels and handles as long as you're careful with your cutting tool.

Yep, they're good.
I have seasons one through three.

I think he was using the desert folder. Yes, I understand the criticism, but these knives seem better conceived than the Gerber Bear Grylls knives, and Les has also collaborated on some high-end survival tools from Helle and Wetterligs. Also, he was in a salt water environment and I believe the Camillus knives are made with 440A - seems like an appropriate choice. I have mad respect for the man.

As far as knives go, he used a fixed blade chinese Winchester bowie in one episode. I expected it to break but it made it through the week.
I'm glad he's back with new episodes.

He had both, he has the "Arctic" model on his belt (in a close up it has a full plain edge, the "Mountain" model has a partially serrated edge), but in one shot, he had the "Desert" folder.
